Normally I do not like spiders (understatement). But this one is sort of cute and doesn't make me want to run away screaming like a girl (I AM a girl). Nice sharp focus and whatever he/she is sitting on just accentuates the fuzziness. Very nice on download!

Great image!

That spider’s stare is a bit unnerving though - which of you blinked first?

For newbies to macro, yes the tubes gave me much greater magnification, but this shot would have not been possible without a good flash solution.

Download to see the full quality of the shot. Canon 5Dsr, Canon 100mm f/2.8L attached to a full set of tubes. Shot at 1/160th, f/11, ISO 200 fully manual settings and a 1/16th power flash.

how cute...I just love her eyelashes! beautiful download and shot, blurry.

Extension tubes are simply hollow set of rings of varying depths that extend your lens away from the camera body, the result is that it allows you to focus on things much closer to the camera than would otherwise be possible, you also lose the ability to focus on things that are not close to the camera while the tubes are attached. The result is that your subject is much larger on the camera's sensor allowing for images like these to be taken. Of course I started with a macro lens, but you can do this and achieve very good results with the lenses you already have, maybe not like these but you can still do much closer macro. Automatic tubes can be bought for most cameras for under $150, I bought my kenko tubes used for about $75 on eBay
