Screw drive was only left off of entry-level models, not upscale models. All of the models I have, have it...That said, the Z models don't interest me, way too costly for what they offer.......

Arch, your attack is tantamount to picking fly shit from the pepper. The older screw drive lenses can still be used with electronic assist. That is not optimum but then again if you want the best out of your $3300 mirrorless camera you won't be looking to use old less than optimum glass, or would you?
Owners of those older lenses have seen the writing on the wall for years and screw drive lens connection has been left off of other Nikon cameras in the past without any significant market hit. Furthermore, any possible converts to Nikon won't give a damn about the old glass. I think you’re hopping on the issue now because the new Nikon in comparison to the new Canon might be a winner and you just have to find something to groan about. Why do you keep trying to kick Lucy’s football?

And as I said, no significant market hit. The Z models are in a sense also 'entry' in that they are Nikon's first cameras in what is a new system and their lack of a screw drive just isn't a big deal. It does give haters something to pick on though.

I figure there are a number of Nikon shooters who held off buying anything while waiting to see what Nikons brings out. Some will like what they see and buy it. Some will kind of like what they see and will be relieved that they now have time to save for version 2. Others will switch to or add another brand to their collection.

Many will be happy that the Z7 is not the greatest thing since sliced bread. That's because they will save a few dollars buying the D850, which is what they really wanted in the first place.

It used to be a huge deal until the Z came out.
Now it is no big deal.

The most interesting time is yet to come, when 'regular' folks get their hands on all these new cameras and we get feedback from them. The hardest thing then will be determining which reports are from fanboys (regardless of brand) and those who are actually putting 'film' through the camera.

Always something to look forward to.

I really agree.
I am tired of the Nikon fanboys attacking the Canon R while the Nikon Z has many issues and failures especially in compatibility which until it came out was what the fanboys beat Canon up daily over something that happened 30 years ago and most people under 60 have no clue what they are talking about let alone having ever used an FD product.

Because it is obvious if you look at the bashing and the only ones that do it.

You sir are seeing things! Bill didn't mention a brand at all. And as far as it goes, I don't keep score. That would require being obsessive. But, it sure as hell isn't just one fan group. Personally I have only responded to your charges because they are for the most part hot air and painfully partisan.

Actually I do believe you are looking with a blind eye, or have a short attention span. Nikon happened to be first on the scene with the new breed mirrorless. They took a lot of bashing from all sides. How many complaints were there, loud and vocal by the video bloggers, about Nikon's single card slot. That is one thing Nikon and Canon have in common. But you didn't hear any uproar when Canon announced it, just some mild dissatisfaction by comparison. It is true that the Canon fans bashing of Nikon was overpowered by the 'see me I'm everywhere' Sony fanboy, but it was there and it was strong.

Bashing seems to be a natural phenomena when folks mentally take ownership of a brand they love. Nobody should be offended unless the attacks become personal. After all, we still haven't figured out which is better, Chevy or Ford? Now of course someone will chime in from left field and say Hyundai. They should be offended.
