Hi Everyone: I have several current Nikon DSLRs and lens and have been caught up in all talk lately about the new mirror less cameras. Then I realized I have a Fuji FinePix S9450W, which I bought years ago refurbished for only $150 and realized that it too is a mirror less. So I started to play with it after sitting in my closet for two years and found it to be fun. It has a wonderful long lens and makes no noise when you take a picture. It has all kinds of features and will do a whole lot of cool but useless things. HOWEVER it has a point and shoot sensor. So my question is, in general, unless I enlarge larger than 8X10, will I notice a big, not slight, difference in my photos. I realize that it will not focus or expose as well as the $5000 new models coming out from Canon and Nikon, but this thing is mirror less and cost me next to nothing. Can I be happy with this mirror less? Bob

You seem to cut out a lot of options between your refurbished FinePix and the new Nikon mirrorless cameras. Fuji, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and Cannon all make interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras that are well under $1000 new and under $500 used. You could probably find a discontinued Nikon 1” sensor mirrorless in that range as well. Just saying that you’re not limited to choosing between a refurbished point-and-shoot and a $5000 full frame mirrorless kit.
"Can I be happy with this mirror less?"
I guess only you can answer that question.
All this mirrorless, DSLR stuff in our forums is a confusing to me. I bought Sony NEX mirrorless camera and really like the quality and size.
It allowed me to take a quality camera anywhere. I liked the images. Eventually led to the a6000/a6300 and I was convinced. Along this way I
purchased the wonder camera Sony's a7s a game changer for video and low light. We could put a a7s as 2nd camera next to a Sony FS-7
Pro camera. I liked that Sony was really making these cameras good video cameras. If you find a mirrorless to small for your liking
Buy the battery grip attachment. Or I use a strobe bracket to hand hold with the cameras. Their are various attachments that add some
grip to these small cameras. And the fact that they are so small makes taking shots/video very low profile. I liked to hold Nikon DSLR's
in my hand. But with a 70 200 it is a huge heavy rig. The only issue for all of us is how long will the DSLR cameras be supported and
serviced. Other than that they are still great cameras.

I can see where a mirrorless DSLR would be confusing.

I have several of the Fuji cameras in that line (couple of S9200's,S8600, and some lower). The 16mp models do a fine job, and if shot on tripod can produce pretty sharp images even at extreme reach. I've not viewed any on a screen larger than 10 X 18 (discounting borders and processing panels) and thought they could easily be printed and framed, and hung on the wall. Gotta love those superzoom's, mine only top out at 50X, but I enjoy them whenever I take one out to play.
I seriously doubt that camera is mirrorless, it's a mega zoom bridge camera. Why would you be asking us if you would be happy with it?

All of the point & shoot & Bridge cameras are mirrorless but none have interchangeable lenses which is a selling feature of current mirrorless cameras.
Does that make the Leica Q (Type 116) a point & shoot? It seems it is, but I would never call it that in polite company.

If the OP spent the $5K buying me camera equipment I know I would feel better!
That was originally a "Kickstarter" program just 2-3 years ago.
They have gone on to make and 8X10 large format. They also just announced an Enlarger using their large format camera with a light head that mounts on the back. Graflex used to sell an enlarger made with a cool light head and stand on a Graflex large format 4X5. This was many decades ago.
This recent offering(s) from Intrepid is very interesting. Yes it is mirrorless and it used Interchangeable Lenses.
So it is a true mirrorless MILC.
Obviously, you are happy with it. ENJOY!
What you should understand is its limitations. Having a 1/2.3 sensor, low light is a problem. Being 16 MByte, resolution is probably less than your DSLR unless it, too, is rather old. Being a fixed lens, it doesn't have a large wide open aperture making low light a problem, and is a compromise in overall quality to get the zoom range.

Yeah, it’s a slick company with some innovative products. That enlarger has my attention.
Even though the Sony S9450W is not mirrorles, it is not a cheap camera, it cost over $1000.00 new. Sony makes bridge cameras the way they are supposed to be made.
I like the fuji range as well....
I think like many entry level cameras, the more you learn to use them, the more features you will want or think you "need". There are exceptions of course. One of my favorite wedding photographers has used his Canon 5D for more than 12 years and says he has no plans to change. He appears to be successful and has many youtube videos expressing why he does not need newer gear after trying them. I agree with much of what he says, but the lure of new gear can be strong! lol
