#1. Done that. At least you have the wonderful photos in your internal card.
#2. Done that also. Didto on organic card.
#3. Probably very fortunate; you still have a wife. Those photos would have cost you a lot.
#4. Dito again.

Mine is that I set my Nikon D7000 on manual to make sure I set something for special situations and forget to reset it to auto. Saturday I was doing promo shots for my model airplane club. Forgot to set auto and took very dark shots under a tent.
Do that almost every time. Like putting things on the roof of the car and driving off. Reminds me of three shotguns on roof after bird shooting.
But, I got an excuse now; I'm 77.

OK, how many of your would admit to these f--- ups?
1. Took 200 images in Prague, in extremely hot weather (90+ degrees), and discover I had no card inserted. BTW: they were wonderful images.
2. Took about the same number of images in Vienna and discovered no card in the camera.
3. My wife was sick in Budapest so we spent a day in the hotel room. No images.
4. We had one more day after our tour ended (today). Hired a private driver and guide to take us around the city, specifically for photo scenes and vantage viewpoints. He was terrific and added history of the country as we drove from site to site. Fabulous sites!!! Fabulous images!! Get back to hotel, paid him $180 & a $40 gratuity for three hours. Could not wait to get back to hotel room to review the images. Guess what? No images!! For the 3rd time, NO Card!!

I could not understand why I did not receive a "no card" warning and how the camera took images without a card. Took out the book (Alexander White) and discoverd I had not enabled the feature in the voluminous menu. DUH!! DUH!!. My father, only in jest, used to day to me, "you're getting dumber by the day"! He was right!!

No lectures please or how to prevent such mistakes. I've been whipped enough.

I'll soon recover and forgive myself.
Mark

I made the same mistake on a helicopter ride in Sedona a few weeks ago. It's worse when the family keeps asking to see the photos. It reminds me of when I would load film in a hurry and not notice until until the counter went past 40.

We have all made mistakes of all sorts in life. Move on, but learn from them.

I lost a roll of film while on a trip through Germany. Luckily my wife bought lots of postcards!

Mark, my photographic Brother I have felt your pain through both film and digital cameras. When we were younger my wife and I along with another couple briskly walked through Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia for a second time in one day to “re-capture” some very unique sites and poses for our photo album. Even today I still look at that one remaining “5X7" framed picture and I am immediately returned to that day with my bride of forty seven years, her sister and husband. They say that you can "never go back", however, I can with one image. Of course the places are not nearly as grand as I recall, but for a moment or two I remember the place, time of day, how I felt, and the excitement of that moment that drove me to take that shot. Yes, by my standards today those pics of forty seven years ago may not have been "keepers", but to me . . . I'm sorry, did I drift off for a moment? I guess now that you all know why I Love and pursue photography. For all of my Ugly Hedge Hog friends, may your exposure triangle always be within due bounds; may you all have excellent light of at least F16 whenever you desire it, while your shutter speed is set to the reciprocal of your lens focal length, at ISO 100; and may the dynamic range of your cameras’ sensors never be exceeded. JimmyT sends.

My RX10 IV came with default settings that don't allow you to release the shutter when no memory card is inserted and a warning flashes on the screen. Did you change those (2) factory default settings?

I feel bad for you. On my honeymoon in Domenica, we took a challenging hike to a waterfall with me snapping away with a Nikon F only to find out later that the film had not advanced at all.

In the first place, I feel sorry for what has happened to you and your photography during this trip to Europe. I am not trying to be a wise guy Mark but if the camera was brand new it was a big mistake to take it with you. You know that so this is only a friendly reminder.
I can understand how you feel and I consider myself lucky that it has not happened to me in the past.

I have done something similar. I had a cousin and her friend in from Birmingham, UK, and they wanted to experience our fall colors. So I packed up my cameras, lenses, etc. They were traveling with M4/3 cameras, so there was little to pack. Anyway, we get to the first place I chose for shooting and I took out my camera, set up the tripod, put the camera on the tripod

And (drum roll please!)

I forgot to bring batteries. I could picture them sitting in their chargers on my desk. Ugh.

So I took out my fully charged cellphone and used that instead.

I feel your pain. My grandfather was our wedding photographer. Shot the whole thing with no film in the camera. Not a single wedding photo do we have.

Wives never "get over it". 10years from now, you can bet, it'll be brought up again. And again!

Sorry about that, Mark. While out shooting do you not ever chimp? If you did, would that have told you there was no card inside? I'm not familiar with that camera.
