I too received the same message and solution. No more updates allowed. Rather than fix the problem, they will take your money for a new product, but keep you in the dark ages as they improve the product for Mac users. I don't use the program. This is the first time I've seen anyone address the problem. Trey Ratcliff is a partial owner of this company and helped contribute to the development. He should make an effort to get this fixed. They have sold this program to tons of people on his suggestions alone. His reputation can be tarnished by this problem. (By the way, my computer, a 5 year old Toshiba Alll-In-One maxes out at 8GB Ram and works just fine with all the programs I have loaded)

A short while ago I picked up a recommendation about Luminar as a good post processing software. I checked it out and liked what I saw, so I bit and ordered Luminar 2018 and Aurora 2018 (hdr software) all from Skylum software. Installed and ran great. The selling point was free updates. Well the software asked to download an update and voila, neither install runs now.

The error says I need open gl3.3 or later to run. I have open gl 4.0?

Well I contacted Skylum tech support via email. They sent me an email back listing files and drivers to update which I did. Still doesn’t run. They suggested I buy a different computer ( mine is 3 years old and nothing but this has a problem.

I asked for a refund, and they suggested I use an old copy of their software and forget about upgrades as they apparently don’t plan on changing whatever is causing the problem!

The sad thing is I googled the problem to see if anyone else had my experience. No exaggeration there must be hundreds of people going thru the same experience I’m having with Skylum.

Does anyone have a better suggestion for post processing software, with an easy learning curve like Luminar had?

It's nice when a company has good customer support, but that's becoming a rarity.

You’re right. At times I feel like a dinosaur, expecting a company to stand behind their product with good customer support.

I had the the very common OpenGL problem with Luminar. Was a Beta tester and bought it only to find out like you that after an update it wouldn't run on my PC. Asked for my money back and received it. I understand that it's a great pgm for the mac, but they've really screwed up the PC conversion.

Don't plan on changing what is causing the problem? Wow, makes $9.99 for Adobe look like the right choice.

After performing all the library and driver steps they requested, which didn’t work, I asked for a refund. Several times, and all I get is we will get back to you. I’m about ready to give up.

I bought both Luminar and Aurora last year when they were released for Windows. Got a good deal, 50% off as a veteran. After loading both, playing, and going through features, I totally felt that neither was “ready for prime time.” Despite Skylum’s continual suggestion that I give it time for planned “free” improvements, I pressed for refunds. After about a month and a bunch of emails and social postings, I finally received a credit. My brother uses Luminar on his Macs and is generally satisfied with features and performance. I simply think the company bit off more than it could chew with the addition and transitioning the software from the Mac to Windows platform. Good luck!

First......Thanks for your service to our country. Sorry you also had problems. What I can’t figure out is why they stall about making a refund? The bad publicity they received can’t be helpful to sales. This isn’t a new, not seen before, error. Apparently they have been dealing with this for months, yet they still go in circles trying to delay the inevitable. The fact that they don’t plan on making any changes to resolve the problem means it won’t be fixed. So offer a refund and get it over with.

My personal opinion is that they were deluged with refund requests and the hope was that the later fixes would cause some users to change their mind. I took the attitude that I didn't purchase the software to become a beta tester. I subsequently purchased ON1 and have been mostly satisfied except for the lack of a history listing, which I relied on extensively with LR 5.7. It takes us older hogs longer to learn new tricks.

I've had the same problem with Luminar 2018, the software is a royal pain in the a** to get to work consistently. The only time it ever worked right was when I bought it and did the original install and forget updating it, the updates kill the program! I had a long dialog with tech support and they ended up putting the "latest" copy (at the time) up on their drop box for me to download...yea that worked for a while until I updated it! I told these guys they should have stayed with the Mac platform as they seem to have nothing but trouble with Windows.

I can remember being so excited with the advent of the digital photo age, with reduction in film processing expenses. On one hand we love all the tech upgrades in software, however, the downside always includes upgrades in hardware along the way.

My last example was my iPhone. It finally was so slow due to software upgrades that I tried a new battery. It helped a little, however, I will have to upgrade soon to just keep up with the newest software.

One of my computers is a new top of the line iMac with 64 M Ram and a lightening fast video card. It makes Adobe & Luminar 2018 run like frightened deer. Neither program work well on my older laptop which is also a Mac.

I spent two weeks back and forth with Skylum. They tried very hard but had no solution to get Luminar to run on my PC. Finally we all gave up and I got a refund. I'm through with Skylum (aka Macphun aka Apple). Back to Photoshop and very happy.

This post proves the advice to 'research' first, then 'buy.' The big hitch is where to find and how access the reviews. Wish I knew where. I hate to recommend cluttering UHH with review stuff, but it seems that only UHH readers know the snippets. Maybe UHH needs a 'stuff review' kind of forum.
