Sorry for your loss, we just lost one of our kitties. He was only 11. We have 2 other cats and they know something is different. Your photos are beautiful. On a lighter note, I sust saw and got to meet Paula Poundstone. She has lots of cats. She was talking about her 17 cats and somebody asked how did she end up with 17 cats and her quick response was "because 2 of them died".

When my Dad died, our first dog hunted the house for him every time we went home for months. When Mom died, we took the dog to the funeral home and held her up to the casket and let her sniff. She never hunted for Mom. She knew she was gone.

Ever since, we either bring a pet home so the others can say Goodbye, or take them to the funeral home. You will be surprised at the difference it makes. Animals do understand death.

From this Crazy Cat Lady, Congratulations!! I have never had 20, but have been up to 8. Now at 7 since Cinder decided he could cross the road when a car was coming. That was sad. I raised Cinder and 5 siblings with a bottle. Their mother died when they barely had their eyes open. Three of them were adopted and I still have Cream and Simba along with Silver, Mikey, Milo, DeDe and Mischief. Maybe you can use one of those names if you are looking for a name.

I'd swear I've occasionally felt our cat we lost jump up on the bed at night. Spooky.

You are not alone longshadow. A little over 3 yrs ago I lost My Wife to cancer. After Her passing I became very close with My long-haired White Persian. She would follow Me every where, lay on My arms when I was at the laptop, and every night She would jump up in bed with Me and curl up next to Me so that She was touching My ribcage and lay Her head on My shoulder or across My arm. In may of this year She got real sick, real fast from congestive heart failure and it got to the point where I could not stand to see Her suffer any longer, and I had to have Her put to sleep one morning at the Vets office so that She could get some peace at the Rainbow Bridge. It broke My heart to lose Her, and I started to feel Her jump up in bed at night and rub against the back of My legs. One night I was about to doze off laying on my side and all at once I felt two paws land right in between My shoulder blades so hard that it startled Me. I put Miley's picture in a 5X7 frame on the night stand next to the bed and My Wife's picture and now that last thing I do each night is say goodnight to both of them. It is soo hard to lose a pet when You are really close to them.

I'd like to think that our pets come back every once in a while just to check on us and will let us know they are near.

We have had the same experience. And sadly, it does diminsh with time.

To the OP, I feel your pain - we are still hurting daily from the loss of our noble Abbysinian, Duncan, last year, and our remaining Abby, Max, still grieves for him (vocally) nearly every day.

You are a special person for giving these sweet animals homes, and I feel sure you will meet them again at the rainbow bridge, as I hope to meet my old friends.

Thank you!! I do miss my past pets and when one crosses Rainbow bridge I send a message to those that have gone before to find the new one and gather him up with the others. I will have quite a following when we all cross into heaven together.

My avatar is a cat I adopted and only had for 5 months when he developed cancer and had to leave. His name was Max. In that short space of time he became #2 on my list of best pets. I miss him very much even though it has been several years. I have his sister and I can tell by the look on her face when she thinks about him. They are all so wonderful. Please give your Max hugs and kisses from me.

Enjoy these precious new additions to your family. It is a loving tribute to the pets that went before them.

Thank you!! I am enjoying the antics of the kittens. I won't even describe the state of my bedroom when I got home from work. I am keeping them in the bedroom for a little while because I have some bigger cats that even though they wouldn't hurt the kittens on purpose don't understand how big and strong they are.

Mama is such a sweetheart and is going to be such a cuddler.

Thank you for your kind words!!

I have the grey kittens twin sister, they are identical, her name is Grace. When my Tara passed I grieved so for her I had a stroke.

I am so sorry your grief brought on a stroke. It just goes to show how much you loved Tara and how much she impacted your life. If Grace is anything like this little lady I'm sure she gives you a lot of love.

Hugs to you both from me and all my "kids".

Beautiful cat and kittens. In the eyes of our Lord you are very special. Animals have been on this earth for longer than we have.
My wife, over a year ago, rescued a kitten from the street. The poor thing was walking erratically and falling often due to thirst and hunger. She even had a superficial infection on her right ear.
I thought she would not survive but she began to drink milk and water and 3 days later she was playing and running around the house. We took her to the Vet and began to receive treatment for the ear infection while getting her first vaccinations. She is now slightly over one year old, healthy, was neutered a few months ago, on a healthy diet and know us all enjoying playing with us. Recently she received all of her vaccinations.
She keeps us busy but I am glad my wife found her.
Beautiful cat and kittens. In the eyes of our Lord... (show quote)

Thank you so much!! Thank you and your wife for rescuing that wonderful little kitten. She is blessed that the good Lord sent your wife to her. Give her lots of hugs and kisses from me!!!

Thank you so much and condolences on the loss of your baby. They do know when one of their friends is gone.

Gee, Paula needs to adopt a few more and catch up to me. Twenty three seems to be my "magic" number of cats. I usually go to the local pound to adopt but there was a case of rabies in a kitten here in Fayetteville and I knew that the ones at the vet were safe.

I have one kitty that looks like your avatar. She is 19. I lost her twin sister when she was 16.

Thank you !!!

When I come home with the empty crate everyone gets to smell it and then when the ashes are returned I put the urn on the floor for them to smell also. I think they really do know that their friend has gone.

When my husband became bedridden from cancer, one of the cats, Emmie, stayed with him 24/7 only leaving for a quick snack, water and potty break and only when another cat took over. She was in the bed with him when he passed and stayed in the room when the gentleman from the hospice came to ready him to go to the funeral home. A friend held her while the priest gave last rights then she jumped right back in the bed. When the funeral home came, the gentleman from the hospice held her and set her outside the room and shut the door when he was taken away. When I went in later that night she went in with me and jumped on the bed and looked around like everything was ok. She never went back in that room again. My husband wasn't a cat lover but he tolerated them and the last photo I have of him is with his arm around Emmie. Animals know more than they are given credit for.
