Wow, Bob! That's awesome. I know you're quite the master. And you know I'm a non-pp person. Can you explain what you did in terms I'll understand?

My first one is done all with Camera raw filter in PS.
My second one is an HDR using Aurora HDR 2018 using one of the basic settings.

Not sure if either one sets the mood for you.

I think they're both really nice. Inviting but still in the wet mood of the day. I actually sort of like the ACR one better, I think. Thanks.

The whole image is a bit flat, but the path needs more of a lift than the vegetation, so you need to do something selective. And where the path leads should be brighter than the rest of it. I don't have time for an edit just now, but when I get back from work I'll show you what I mean.

Just a thought I had. I stretched it a little.

OK, here's my latest edit. Better? Worse? Just different? Good different?
It's all what you want, not to mention that different devices are going to see differently, especially greens I think. And printing might lead you in a different direction also. I think it's fun to tweak edits and see how small changes can affect the mood.

I'll start by saying I like this image. But I don't like this image. I like where I was and how it felt to be there. I totally enjoyed my time on this path that was described as one "without destination." I found such lovely things there. Somehow my image leaves me sort of cold - not at all the way I felt when there. I've tried making it darker, lighter, more contrasty, etc. But my PP skills aren't wonderful and I've sort of exhausted them.

So I'd appreciate some suggestion from all of you as to how to make this image better define how I felt when there: peaceful, without hurry or worry, willing to be simply led for awhile.

What I have posted is a jpeg made directly from the original RAW file in ACR with no corrections whatsoever.

Your experience is a sum of many diverse senses. The view, the sound, the smell, the humidity, the feel of the move of air, and so on. It is very difficult to convey a personal impression in any form of art. And you are trying to do this with just the view. The limitations you feel are normal. We "tweak" heavily in different ways to evoke the memory of that moment. But it will never be exact. Hence we strive to get as close as possible.

One "tweak" I would do is to shoot lower to the path, pointing the focus to the (unseen) horizon. The tweaks already presented are good, though.

I agree. Or crop out the sky. It detracts from the path. Lovely image, tho, with many pp possibilities.

Thanks, I'll look forward to it. Sort of like walking toward the light?

Thanks, Stephen. If I could return to the location to reshoot, that would probably be the first thing I'd do. I seldom think about doing that except for tiny little flowers on the ground. It's so hard to get back up! I guess I'm working to get rid of the "blahs" I see in the actual image. I certainly didn't feel blah when I was there.

I've considered cropping out the sky. Do you have a particular possibility you'd like to share with me? I'm pretty open right now.

There are several of us who groaned when you said "hard to get back up". It was a sympathetic "groan".

I have learned long ago to separate my self from the shot. And I will certainly state that often I find myself not remembering to do that. I am so enjoying that afterglow that I fail to work the shot. Many times, of course.

I will say that you definitely were not feeling "blah" in the moment. You captured the moment for the right reason. And it is saved in the right place, in your mind.

Can you "tether" your camera to your smartphone? This would help shoot with a lower camera, on a tripod. It can negate the need to get down.

Just a thought.

I don't have a smart phone, so that's out. The 5D doesn't have an articulating screen, so I can't do live view or viewfinder without being right behind the camera. That is one really nice feature I've found with my SX50 - I can move the screen! But, I wasn't using it at this moment.
