I'll start by saying I like this image. But I don't like this image. I like where I was and how it felt to be there. I totally enjoyed my time on this path that was described as one "without destination." I found such lovely things there. Somehow my image leaves me sort of cold - not at all the way I felt when there. I've tried making it darker, lighter, more contrasty, etc. But my PP skills aren't wonderful and I've sort of exhausted them.

So I'd appreciate some suggestion from all of you as to how to make this image better define how I felt when there: peaceful, without hurry or worry, willing to be simply led for awhile.

What I have posted is a jpeg made directly from the original RAW file in ACR with no corrections whatsoever.

AzPicLady, it might be of assistance if you put in to words the feelings that you were experiencing during your time there.

Hummm. I tried to do that. But I added it at the end. Perhaps it didn't correct? Totally at peace, totally unhurried and unworried, willing to simply be led by the path to wherever it went and whatever I might find.

I couldn't tell it was raining before I saw your caption. But I don't think that's a necessary aspect anyway other than it explains the flat light. What is missing here IMO is intimacy, being embraced by the silence. In that regard, I offer this crop. I didn't do any edits because you and I are so far apart in our interests. But I'd probably add some glow to help lead us down the path

Your crop certainly puts me IN the forest instead of heading into it. I like that. And it's more about the forest and less about the path. That's OK too. THANKS. Maybe adding some glow would spark it up? I don't know how to do that. Is it a PS rendering?

I have Photoshop Elements, but many of my edits come from Nik Collection's dozens of pre-sets, which I adjust to taste, and when applicable, I mask from some areas via layers and layer masks.

Here is with a "little bit" of cool glow + I've darkened edges, brightened center, done additional selective lightening of the path and a slight change in levels - just upped the whites, I think. This may look too green and/or bright for your tastes (and I think I lightened the path a skosh too much) - but these things are easily changed when you work with layers. In fact, let me do that and re-post as #3 below

Thank you, Kathy!

That certainly has more WOW factor. A lot more! I have some Nik stuff, but I don't really know how to use it. I like this! Thanks, Linda.

I went back and edited to less wow since it was raining. I added to my post as photo #3 - while you were typing, I think.

If you are ever in the mood to do more with Nik, there are tons of help and how-to topics online (and UHH buddies to chat with )

I tried to give the feeling you were looking for by bringing out the highlights and deepening the shadows. I think it brings out the rain on the path and gives it more depth, inviting you to keep going. I tried cropping out the top a little but it seemed to take away from depth of field. I hope you like it.

Thanks, Keni. You went further with this than I did. And yes, i like it a whole lot more than mine. I agree about the top. I tried several crops, but when I'd come back and look at it, something just looked amiss. Again, thanks.

Linda, I looked at your redo. It's probably more realistic. And now I know exactly what's missing: Sunshine!!!!! You added sunshine!

OK, here's my latest edit. I think I went too far. I lost the rain in lieu of sunshine. Think I need t find a balance somewhere. Linda, still contemplating your crop suggestion. I'll print it out and see how it moves me.

I did the beginning work in ACR - saved that. Then into PS for further tweaking. Then into Nik and hit something that totally ruined it! Didn't know how to back out of that, so kept doing stuff in Nik. Finally found the "sunlight" filter. I think it's too strong perhaps. Anyway, any opinions? Better? Worse? Just different? Good different?

My first one is done all with Camera raw filter in PS.
My second one is an HDR using Aurora HDR 2018 using one of the basic settings.

Not sure if either one sets the mood for you.
