In Stevens Point Wisconsin about 20 years was an ad for a new Cadillac for $100.00. No one paid any attention to it. Until a teen ager went to buy the car. The woman sold it to him for the $100.00. She said her husband had filed for divorce and she was getting rid of the car before her soon-to-be ex-husband gave it to his girlfriend.

I doubt this. Her husband's name would have been on the title so she would not have been able to complete the sale and transfer of title. she may have attempted to sell the car but would not have been successful.

Who would sell it? I don't really know. Why not investigate and see what you can find out. Last time I checked, we are all innocent until proven other wise. It's not a scam until proven to be a scam.

I have recently come into ownership of the London Bridge. I don't have anyplace to keep it so will let it go for $100.00 OBO.

This is the picture found on craigs list that I wrote about last week. Who would "sell" all this for $800.00?

Better to stick with eBay for used merchandise of this caliber...you have protections (reputation/rating system, eBay buyer protection, etc)...with Craigslist you are on your own.

I do love it when these knowledgeable people jump in with their clever remarks. Can’t comment on whether it’s a scam or not, probably is. Since when has a Canon 5Div been one of Canon’s lower end dslr’s. In the U.K. they’re selling for getting on for £3500.

Bought mine from Craigs list and love it. Have got some great deals. You can tell when you meet with seller.

I've seen these type deals on E-bay: Looks like a top-line camera (or other item) for a ridiculous price, you click on it to bid and are presented with the ability to buy said camera for the real price range, hundreds or several thousand dollars. It looks like another form of bait-n-switch...must be OK with the Ebay Gods, as I seen these several times in the last few months. I wish I had followed the ad to see if it stayed up, or anything actually listed as sold. In other cases, someone will flood the listings with ridiculously cheap high-end cameras (or other) and lens, only to have them disappear later with a message about it being removed by the e-bay gods. I've also seen cheap P&S and DSLR cameras listed for thousands, with free shipping!! .... I guess some folks will try anything to get your cash. "Rare", "vintage" Quantaray, Soligor, Vivitar, Kamero and other cheap lens listed for high prices. And then, you do get the Estate Sales and Divorce Sales where things go cheap, for a couple reasons (don't know the value, selling all "his" or "her" stuff for revenge, etc. etc.) In one instance, I inquired with the seller about an item just purchased (description was not accurate compared to closer inspection of pictures) and (turned out to be a lady in a separation) when she further described the item, and I told her that I could not use it with my gear, wished her luck and cancelled the sale, she refunded my money. About a week later I received the item with a little note about sounding like a very nice person, and to enjoy the item as a gift!! (It was probably worth several hundred$$) You just never know what you will encounter. (In this case she sounded like she really hated her "ex").

Actually, these things happen more often than we know....I personally know a young man who was nearly homeless (he has issues) and was living in a fifth wheeler (pretty decent 35 footer) in the woods.....he went on a binge and vanished for a few weeks...while gone someone who knew of the issues, came in and quietly removed the fifth wheeler, cleaned it up, and sold it for $7,000.00 (that's right). A lady bought it for her son to live in at a local RV park. Well, long story short...binge boy comes back...can't find his home...goes searching and asking...finds out what happened....he still (amazingly, he has little else) has the title....with local law enforcement he reacquires his fifth wheeler...and now the guy who took it and the lady who bought it are in a big legal stink. I don't know all the details, but fraud and grand theft are on the table. Someone is out of a lot of money....and binge boy is back living in his now sparkling clean fifth-wheeler.

As a general rule, any time you see someone selling camera equipment for less than half of the "used" value, it is a scam.

It is not 100%, because sometimes people are selling off stuff without checking the value, so let's just say that 99.4% of those are scams.

So for every 1000 people that pick up amazing deals online, six of them walk away happy. 994 of them are trying to get their money back, trying to get a waterlogged camera fixed, or trying to prove to the bank that their identity was stolen.

Although the first thought may be that it is hot, it could be legitimate. I personally know people who after the death of a husband or wife or divorce don't understand the value of their partner's property and sell it for a fraction of its value either because they just want to get rid of it or don't have the energy to research its true value. This is not as uncommon as you may think.

In that past several months, there have been Craig's List ads for NIB Nikon D850's, for $1K. Same ad ran in various locations in Detroit metro area. Total scam.

In this case beware, most likely hot or bait, but there might be valid reasons why $3500+ camera equipment is selling for $800 on CL....
1. Desperato seller - need to liquidate quickly and may not realize the true market value (the non-photographer spouse in a divorce case).
2. Estate sales - the executor might not know the true value of the equipment (they don't know an instimatic from a Leica) - they just want to sell it for quick cash.

Ask why they are selling if not mentioned in the ad, but I personally prefer to buy stuff like this on eBay (which still requires caution, but less so).
