I agree with everything but the lower prices...unfortunately.

So in other words Bill, Nikon is playing 'Catch Up" to the Mirrorless technology. All other companiies will also be playing catch up and that's a good thing. Competition breeds better technology, better quality and lower prices....'bout time

New mount means new lenses again. No thanks. Nikon doesn’t listen to it consumers that’s why it’s in the position it’s in now.

Nikon didn't change their lens mount when they went AF and that's why Canon (which did) surpassed them.

I think we all can agree Nikon is far and away the best photographic company out there in every way. Best products, customer service, and the best customer service. They will lead the field in mirrorless technology. They may not be the first, but they will be the best.

Oh, I see. "New user!" In time you will find that getting "all" to agree here is like herding cats.

I'm a Nikon guy. 40 years. Love 'em. But from my beginning, if I had had the means, I'd have had several different camera systems because there are many "cool, quality" systems on the market. For the alarmists here (Nikon is "a decade late to the party", "they have left it far too late," yadda yadda) --- traditionally, Nikon lagged behind the other camera companies with innovations, jumping in after the innovations proved themselves (the exception, of course, is Matrix/AMP Metering --- where did THAT come from?). Nikon was slower to incorporate TTL metering, aperture priority auto exposure, etc. But being late didn't hurt them much.

I expect the Nikon Mirrorless system to do well, especially if they have found a way to use todays lenses (in some manner) with the new cameras. How much it will cannibalize their DSLR systems remains to be seen.

I'm not part of the "we". When I moved to AF, I went from Pentax to Canon. Recently I moved back to Pentax. At any price level they produce at, I believe Pentax makes the best body. Canon's EF/USM lenses are superior.

This is pretty exciting. Looking forward to another major player getting into this arena. I also read this, not this article but just a brief statement and am looking forward to seeing what the final camera is like.
The new mount sounds interesting as well and how it works with existing inventory.

Is sony making this mirrorless sensor for Nikon? Remember the D850 sensor is made by Sony.

Will Nikon's new mirrorless system use their own sensors or Sony's?

I agree with you. All the things you said didn't hurt them what hurt them bad is that the stick to the F mount and fell behind in the AF era.

Many, many current Canon/Nikon/Pentax users are wed to the OVF, and won't go MILC. The real effect on DSLR sales will be seen amongst new users.

Nikon and Canon are excellent marketers. The interesting thing to watch is to whom and where Nikon markets its new MILC cameras. You do not see the latest FF Sony cameras at Costco, But you probably will see Nikon sell their new cameras there.

Well pardon me for being a new user. I have reading the page for a long time although I just recently registered so I could add my insightful, thoughtful, meaningful responses. I feel I have a lot to add and should not be taken lightly just because I am a “ new user “.

And, of course, a new mount system for their lenses, which may or may not improve on their current mounting, but certainly will generate more money for them.
