You took words from my mouth. When Olympus and Panasonic began to make mirrorless cameras and lenses Canon and Nikon did not seem to pay attention. As the years went by and those cameras and lenses gained in technology they became very popular all over the world and today many professionals are using them. I do not use Canon gear but Nikon is pretty late to the party and when they jumped into the wagon with mirrorless the cameras had a sensor not much larger or bigger than a point and shoot camera.
I bet their camera or cameras are going to come to us with a hefty price. If the cameras will be all of what a professional expect from them I do not really know but right now Sony has that market. I wish them well and I can say right now that the new camera is not for me, I am very happy and entirely satisfied with the quality I get from my Olympus cameras and lenses.
Let's see if those cameras are all they say they are.

I think Nikon did it right letting others develop the technology first and work out the kinks. Not sure I agree with the mount change at all though. A big investment with new lenses too.

No, the folks who have ORDERED their D850 are not seeing other brands that they considering. Only the folks who have NOT ordered their D850 are considering other brands because they have not decided to DISH out the money for one. IT IS THAT SIMPLE.

It looks like we will get the details on August 23.

Everyone is run around like ants waiting to get the new Nikon's cameras, the race is on. Someone wrote to it good time to buy good second cameras.

I am waiting too. I wait and see if I can get a big discount on the purchase of the D5.

One of the things I've always liked about Nikon is that all of their cameras always had the same mount, even the old manual lenses. Well, maybe we can pay reasonable prices for "F" style mount lenses.

If they do, they will discount $500.00 only, and that would only be with the introduction of the D5s, not the mirrorless.

Let's hope the new Nikon mirrorless system is worth the wait (long wait!)....

Sounds like the Chinese stealing American Tech for decades and calling it their own.

https://kenrockwell.com/tech/nikon-vs-canon.htm - I think not and I might add great photos come from great photographers the rest just get lucky once and awhile and it make very little difference what system your using.

I think we all can agree Nikon is far and away the best photographic company out there in every way. Best products, customer service, and the best customer service. They will lead the field in mirrorless technology. They may not be the first, but they will be the best.

System can make enormous difference. My first AF camera, a Canon EOS, allowed me to photograph scenes I never would have caught without motor drive and AF. I'm quite certain the EF mount is the reason Canon is so far ahead of Nikon today in market share.
