"Good for them. About a decade late to the party, but still, they’re moving forward."

You took words from my mouth. When Olympus and Panasonic began to make mirrorless cameras and lenses Canon and Nikon did not seem to pay attention. As the years went by and those cameras and lenses gained in technology they became very popular all over the world and today many professionals are using them. I do not use Canon gear but Nikon is pretty late to the party and when they jumped into the wagon with mirrorless the cameras had a sensor not much larger or bigger than a point and shoot camera.
I bet their camera or cameras are going to come to us with a hefty price. If the cameras will be all of what a professional expect from them I do not really know but right now Sony has that market. I wish them well and I can say right now that the new camera is not for me, I am very happy and entirely satisfied with the quality I get from my Olympus cameras and lenses.
Let's see if those cameras are all they say they are.

I have the Nikon 1 V 2 and 3 and also the J5 with all the lenses they make for that system I also own the Sony RX100 I and the RX100 V6 all these cameras use 1 inch sensors (all mirror-less). I was disappointed when Nikon dropped the Nikon 1 series as they take wonderful photographs. I print these out at 13X19 without problems and all from a 1" sensor.

I realize that the F-mount is nearly fifty years old, but it is the reason I have stayed with Nikon since I started shooting 35mm. Nikon tried thes BS before with the Nikon One compact, and very few people bought them. I am not interested in this system, and will not be buying one, no matter how good it is!

I think we all can agree Nikon is far and away the best photographic company out there in every way. Best products, customer service, and the best customer service. They will lead the field in mirrorless technology. They may not be the first, but they will be the best.

Lots of words here, but they don't really say much of anything. Lots of blah, blah, blah, but reading this doesn't tell me anything I didn't know yesterday from so-called "leaks".

You know that it is NOW official, not just unverified leaks. Look on the bright side.

If I want a full-frame mirrorless, with a non-standard mount (that has to be adapted to use Nikon lenses), I can just buy a Sony A7Riii.

I admit that Nikon has really great skin tones, but can't I just buy a "Nikon skin tone" pack for Lightroom?

I think a lot of people don't understand that it's a bad choice for Nikon to make the new mirrorless with the F mount. The F mount not only not best for a mirrorless system it also has way too many variations and compatibility issues to hold on to it.

Best 'Company' in every way? Rather a subjective statement but I think we can all agree they do make fine cameras and mighty fine lenses. Canon, Sony, Leica, Fuji users may have a different take. However, when you get out of the actual Digital Camera arena (where they put their focus), they may be lagging far behind, video is also photographic. Even the 850 sensor is made in large part by Sony and with a little help, Sony might continue or contribute to help Nikon with Mirrorless. No doubt they will continue on the path to a great quality Mirrorless

I will continue to use my D500 until I find it too heavy to lug around (Young 75). At that time i’ll opt for a lighter mirrorless that fits my needs. Nikon catching up with mirrorless technology that is continuing to develope will be tough.

Uh, no, I’m pretty certain that we ALL do NOT agree with that 😳. Nikon make excellent products, but they are not alone in that respect.

Nikon FF mirrorless is not for me. It will be far too expensive.

Leica, Hasselblad, Sinar digital all make Nikon look very affordable.

No thanks. I dumped Nikon years ago for Fuji. I won’t look back. I’m sure Nikon will pull the same old crap it always did. In order to get the latest system you have to constantly buy a new camera. I like the fact Fuji does firmware upgrades at no charge. I have desire to enter into the Nikon arena again.

Nikon is putting lot of emphasis on the new mount as the path to a 'new dimension in optical performance'. My very limited understanding is that the new mount will be much wider than heretofore which would allow them to develop faster lenses than can be achieved with Sony's E-mount. I'm also wondering if the long term strategy might be to develop a larger sensor or medium format camera that would be compatible with the new mount lenses the same as Sony did with the APS-C and FF E-mount?? All sounds very expensive - and heavy.

Really! Cut & pasting shameless plugs for Nikon on UHH. The only reason Nikon is announcing a new Mirrorless is that it has to compete with Canon's release of Mirrorless systems and sorry to say they are both late to the party. I would still go with a Sony system first and a Fujifilm second as they are both way ahead in Mirrorless game. Canon & Nikon's mirrorless systems are going to have to prove they can compete in image quality, build and performance before they get my $$$.

I have been using Nikon for the past 50 years but my next camera will be a Sony A7RIII. I am too old to wait for Nikon to start selling their mirrorless camera(s) and debug them. The Sony is available now and is so far in advance of my needs that it will not become obsolete (for me) within my "functioning" lifetime.
