As they say, you made lemonade out of lemons. Very, very good.

Thanks a bunch, NMGal--as warm as it was on the Valley floor that day, I could have used a nice cold lemonade!

You did great, no second guessing. Actually, the valley walls are so steep, that the "golden hours" aren't that great. Shadows are present until almost mid morning.

Having never been there before, that's reassuring to hear. As you'll see in the next part of the series, I did get my chance to get reflections of the sun-lit mountain peaks coming back across the Tioga Road. And I feel so much more spontaneous as a photographer when I can leave the crowds behind.

'West' is the only direction I know when it comes to vacations, jederick!! Thanks so much for the good words.

These are outstanding shots. You made the conditions work for you!

Not so sure how much of it was me, or how much credit we need to be giving Lightroom, Carol!!!

I agree with everyone else.......for mid day conditions, you did great! Yosemite is a wonderfully unique paradise with photographic potential all over. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Brent--I know I missed far more than I caught and there's a story behind that. A dozen years ago, when I first planned a trip to Yosemite, I bought Michael Frye's photographer's guide. Excellent book! Well, we didn't get to make the trip then, and the book gathered dust on the shelf in the years since. Finally, the fates aligned and Tioga Road was opened in time for this trip (which was booked last fall). As we climbed the Tioga Road heading west, I reached to get my guide to all things Yosemite and discovered I had left it in the room back at June Lake! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

These are beautiful photos with rich colors. Particularly like the second one.

Thank you, GreyOwl! The second one is what I dream of finding while on my trips--mirror smooth reflections with sun-kissed peaks and deep shadows. Just can't get enough of that kind of scenery.

Thank you, waterfalls! This was one time I couldn't do much about 'silky' water--no 'big stopper' and a whole lot of sunlight.

Wow--I’m impressed. These are definitely my kind of photos.

Does that mean you are a 'sunshine and blue skies' kind of guy? And here I'm grousing about not being there for the golden hour. Your comment makes me think I may need to change my attitude about bright mid-day light. Thanks for giving me encouragement, John.
