Outstanding landscape photography !! Such beautiful countryside.

Hi, Dennis! The trip turned out to be more interesting than I expected, but that's because I was fortunate enough to have lots of help planning from other Hoggers. Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment.

Oh that brings back memories! I was SO COLD when I was trying to do that. I skipped Mono Lake because I was desperately looking for a warmer place!

Nice pictures!

Thanks for the road trip! The Sierra Nevada mountains have so many destinations I want to hit, with my kayak and my camera, before life and age change me to where I can't.

Good to see that Mono Lake has more water than the last time I was there.

We were on the road before dawn in order to be at Convict Lake for first light. Anticipating temps in the 40's, I wore my Columbia rain jacket, but not my fleece. I was an icicle by the time I got back in the car. Later I saw where the recorded temperature that morning was 28 degrees. (Just a word to the wise, wear fleece. You can always take it off.) After a warming breakfast at Tom's Place, we drove up the Rock Creek Road to the John Muir Wilderness Area. Second lesson learned--never ask a hiker how difficult a trail is! After a rocky, strenuous (for us) hike, we reached the overlook to Mack Lake. Next stop was the Mammoth Lakes area where we went first to Mamie Lake, then crossed the road to photograph the waterfall created by the outflow from Mamie down to/and including Twin Lakes. Heading east, we went to the Hot Creek Geologic Site, then north to scout out Mono Lake for a nice location to return to for a sunrise. June Lake was our home base for the next three nights.
We were on the road before dawn in order to be at ... (show quote)

This sure is a very well photographed and beautiful landscape set....Rich

Nice pictures!

Oh, I almost missed doing Mono Lake, too, but not because of the cold--I could hardly walk by the time afternoon arrived each day because the trail to Mack Lake in the John Muir Wilderness area had set my plantar fasciitis on fire that second day out. The spot I had scouted out at Mono for my sunrise shoot required a pretty long walk to reach, but we finally made it for the sunrise on the morning we were to leave the area. And it was worth the walk for me!

Glad you came along for the ride, Alby! I understand completely about reaching your goals before your body says 'no more'. Good luck checking off the destinations in your bucket list!

Oh, I was playing in your back yard, Willaim! Glad you liked the images. Do you explore this region often yourself?
