I've been using foam noodles for years, just cut a slit and place it on the window.
I use an ergo rest auto window tripod. I added the Arca Swiss Mount. It’s got a slot in top foot to fit over glass and bottom legs press up against window. I believe it’s solid aluminum, and rubber coated. There is an adjustment on the other side that allows you to alter the leg placement to adjust the tilt. B&H says no longer available, but I’m sure you can find it somewhere on the internet. Also there are several mounting holes in the unit to change the position of the camera. When not using in the car, I change the mount to the hole in the vertical visible in the first picture, and I have a one foot high tripod I can place on a table or on the ground to steady the camera.

I am searching for suggestions on techniques and gear for stabilizing your camera in an automobile. I want to use it in inclement weather to photograph lightning. So a window glass mount would have the camera in the rain and wouldn't work.
Please share with me what you find. I'm looking for one too.

B & H sells one with 2 suction cups that I keep in my trunk all the time. Someone here at UHH mentioned they also sell one with 3 suction’s cups.
Mine is very flexible and does a nice job.

Although he didn't use what some might call protocol, he did address his post to a particular person.
"Hey

May I ask a related question here on camera stability in high-vibration environment?
