I'm about 7K into my Nikon D810 and lenses and still have a wish list of lenses I'd like to have. I think this figure is pennies compared with what some on this forum spend on equipment.

The lens is the key. I shoot Nikon and recently shot a Yankee vs. Baltimore game at Yankee Stadium. I used a Nikon D500(DX) and a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 FL. It worked well but after that, I went out and bought a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 and now I'm super happy. I don't think a full frame is necessary if Canon has a DX equivalent to the D500. Have fun.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies that I received this week. I am reaching out once more. Ok here's you assignment. 8000.00 budget you must purchase the best gear for sport shooting. Hockey and Baseball respectively. Camera body i currently have is a Canon 7dmkii. Looking for another body btw is full frame absolutely necessary? Have fun with this assignment. Thanks in advance.📷

Well as I am a Nikon Man .., let’s start it’s a Nikon D500 ...used (eBay) or Refurbished ..$1,200-$1,500 ...lenses.., a Nikon 70-200 2.8 as sports could be outdoors or in ...

Then .. a long lens reach if you are sitting way back .. up in the bleachers ...say a budget minded Nikon 200-500 5.6 outdoor baseball .. and a mono pod ..

You can do the research on the net regarding the sports lenses .. their weakness and strengths ..vs cost ..

Start out with a great sports camera ...D500 and the chase down the lenses ....If it were me .. I would get the D500 and then go rent the lenses you have narrowed down .., take them to your tipical sporting events you plan on shooting ... then you’ll know exactly what lens to purchase that goes well with the D500.

Good luck .. let us know the results .. that will indeed help others like yourself .....

Just wondering....anybody use the Nikon 85mm f1.8 for indoor basketball on a dx camera?

Usually the request here is to shoot indoor sports and wildlife on a budget of $600...

First, he said gear which could be a combination of lenses and a camera.and could top $8000 easily. A full frame body, a 24-70 mm f/2.8, 70-200 mm f/2.8 and a 35mm prime would do it. If you consider someone spending $8000 as having more money than brains, what budget, and what camera and lenses would you suggest for an upper limit?

This was a great reply. I do not shoot sports photography. Your reply told me about equipment that I did not know was out there. Thank you.

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A CANON: You will find that the Nikon is very different, the lenses you have will not be useful --- even putting lenses on the two cameras will not work the same way etc. etc. etc... I will not go on, but suggest that you use a Nikon for a couple of days, see if you want to be confused whenever you work--

My thoughts-- I can move easily from the D800. to the 810-- no problem, should love to have a second 810 -- the 500 is a whole 'other beast--- and it is NOT a canon--- It I were you I would put all my money on a canon--- maybe a DX , maybe not---

could not even use my grandson's canon---

Hmmmmm, think I’ll use this ploy to put together my next kit. It’s kinda like that trick Tom Sawer used to get the fence whitewashed 😉🤫

Do you already have the artistic vision and technical skill to benefit from the gear, or do you have to buy that too? Asking for a friend. 😜😜

I will just take the 8K and go on an extended road trip. I'm happy with what I have.
