I like the color, and your composition is perfect! I find that most people are flattered to have their picture taken.

I’m a big fan of black and white photos. That said, I believe the color version works much better here because of the color separations.

Color. But there is an exposure problem as the rose she is holding is blown out. It's a classic problem, what do you expose for, the skin or the white rose? There is no right answer. Sometimes a compromise works, or white balence. or slight underexposure. Sometimes metering from a grey card works. That said I'm sure that the pretty young lady would love a copy of that photo.

I like the color version - hopefully you got her contact info so you can send her the image!

I have been wanting to take personal photos of people, but have been too shy to ask. This morning, I was at Kingwood Estate in Mansfield, OH, and this pretty young Lady was enjoying God's beauty. So. I approached her, asked her if I could take her photo. She was very happy to accommodate me. What do you think of my attempt? I converted the original to black n white, which do you like better?

I prefer it in color!

Congratulations on working up the courage to ask. I know it's not easy. The color one is more appealing. "What do you think of my attempt?" If I had taken this photo and was interested in evaluating how I might have done better, I would say to myself:

1. The brightness of the white flowers in the lower right keep pulling my eye away from the subject.
2. The bright color of her nail polish distracts from her face. I'd tone down the nails.
3. Her thumb sticking up behind her lips shouldn't be there. I should have worked on the hand placement.
4. I should have shot from a lower position so that her right eye would not appear to be closed.

I think, in this particular case, both versions are lovely.

Her skin tone is gorgeous, I would not loose that aspect of the image with a B&W conversion. As others have stated I would consider a bit of cropping to focus attention. But overall good work.

Nicely taken and good composition of a lovely young lady and the roses. I find the richness of the color version to be the most pleasing.

This is a very nice photo. The questions I have to ask as I assess it are: What is the story it is trying to tell? What helps with that? What distracts or is irrelevant? The answers to those questions lead me to favor the black and white photo. I think the red fingernails and the colorful blouse are distractions from the story about her interaction with the flowers. They say something about her; if you want to keep that as a subplot then the color photo makes sense. That's also why I'd crop some from the bottom to focus more sharply on her interaction with the flowers. It's all subjective. There are good arguments to be made either way.

I like them both, but I prefer the color version, the flower she is holding carries more detail, but appears slightly blown out in the monochrome.

Usually I lean toward B&W, but here I like the warmth of the color.
