The Sony I'm talking about will put what he's got to shame , even the ones costing more ,

Please don't mock me, but I'd love to downsize from my Nikon D5300 to a good, moderately priced wifi point and shoot. Most important is good def, low light, good zoom. Any suggestions? Thanks to all!

I own and use both my Nikon D5300 and a Nikon P7800. For a pocket camera I love the P7800. I suggest you check out the specs. There is a refurb on E-Bay for $300. At that you might try it and hold onto the D5300 for a while to see if the transition helps you.

No mocking, I promise! There are many reasons to go from a dSLR to a lighter camera.

You don’t state the specific features you’d like or the amount you’re willing to spend:

First off consider the Fuji x100 line up. Next the micro 4/3rds. Finally, there are many fine point and shoots from Panasonic Lumix that would fit the bill, especially if you are looking for a compact, do-it-all camera with a zoom lens.

iPhoneX has a nice lightweight and very capable camera built in. Maybe I'm being a little sarcastic but really, it does a nice job, actually a great job in the right hands. Super lightweight and very capable.

I think I bought the last new P7800 several years ago (all the usual places discontinued, but Newegg had one in a warehouse). It's my backup camera (primary Panasonic FZ-1000). It might be discontinued, but certainly still serves my needs. I've used the museum mode many times.

Here I am, writing to your February 2015 post. I did not read all the pages and am curious. Did you downsize? I have a D750 and think very highly of it. But for my recent retirement vacation, I got a Sony RX100V. Love the little darn thing! So light, great shots, fits in your pocket, and incredible results! No, it does not replace my D750, but for simple travel photos, outstanding!

I recently got the RX100V and I’m amazed! Fast sharp lens, fast focus, 24fps, 4K video, incredible. No, it’s not my D750, but for light travel photography, excellent.

Well said. I love my D750, but for travel, I’m taking my Sony RX100V.

I also will not upgrade my Sony RX100V for a VI. Prefer the fast f1.8 lens for travel, particularly when taking pictures indoors, like cathedrals.

The point here is that the OP asked for suggestions for a POINT AND SHOOT... Not another DSLR, or mirrorless.

Yes he did. Many of us apparently believe he asked the wrong question.

That's the trouble with our world today. The other guy is always wrong and MY opinion matters.
