This is the NRA's position. There is something very wrong.

Yes I admit that the title of my post was "over the top" but it did get your attention. Truth be told Al Qaeda can buy guns in the USA as easily as Joe Citizen so although the NRA is not marketing to Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda is exploiting this vulnerability.
I too believe that you should be able to own a firearm for protection of your home, family and self and that hunting, sporting clays and target shooting are all good wholesome sports.
Where I depart from the NRA and from many gun advocates is that I don't believe any civilian needs an assault rifle, a hundred round magazine, flash suppressors or armor piercing ammunition.
Why can't we have this discussion with some sanity and not just take the extreme views and refuse to compromise?

Frank, you are so typical of folks from NY.You talk of things that don't even exist. There are no assault rifles with 100 round magazines. If there were, they would be too heavy to carry.Look,if you don't like guns, don't buy any. However, there is no doubt in my mind that if a bad guy was kicking in your door at night, and you were getting put on hold trying to make a 911 call, you then would wish you had bought a gun and learned to use it.

FrankT, I understood that you were stating the extreme case, however, Al Qaeda could go to the next gun show and spend a lot of $ and truck them away then the next and next...

Gun registration comment from page 1, well how about firing a shot from each gun when registering and the markings go on file along with finger prints of owner. Humm look here the slug in the dead bank guard matches the gun that joe smith registered and here is his picture and finger prints!!

It is time to analyze the USA and consider if we were rebuilding it from fresh what would it look like. The USA has evolved and like Appendix in your body many USA long usless vestiges that can be a serious source of infection need to be trimmed away.

I have been a gun owner and hunter for 53 years. I am a former NRA member. I would take gun registration one step further. I believe all guns should have a title just like a car. If a person was to sell a gun, the title would be transfered to the new owner. I believe a clip should be restricted to less then 10 rounds.
A person would still have the right to keep and bear arms.

Ok I can understand your view as a hunter, but us pistol and rifle owners don't agree.Gun restriction laws ONLY apply to honest law abiding gun folks as they will obey the law.Unfortunately, criminals by definition don't.
The 2nd Amendment is NOT about duck hunting.
Think for yourselves people.

Strong proponent of freedom loving Americans? Not likely.

Propogandists for Smith and Wesson, Remington, Taurus, etc? Absolutely. And saps all over America fall for their bull$hit year after year.

You are so uninformed that I kick myself for even responding to this tired old crap.
They get their money from MEMBERS.Can you say "members"? I bet you can!

Also .... it should be required that the purchaser take a gun saftey course ..... you are required to take a hunter safety course before you get a hunting license .... why not to own ...

Sorry, Charlie. The amount if money they spend on lobbyists, propaganda and campaign contributions is several times what they get from members. Don't be naive.

PBearPerry,
That's really odd that 100 round magazines don't exist because the colorado shooter had an AR15 with a 100 round drum magazine. In fact they cost 140.00 and here's the web page that you can buy one at. http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct896.aspx
So please don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about because I am very well versed in firearms, including fully automatic ones.
Now that you know "THEY DO EXIST" please tell me the last time you went hunting and needed 100 rounds to take down a deer in the wilds of Massacusettes. Give me a break!.

Well by that logic, why don't we limit gasoline purchases to less than 10 gal.? I mean, more people are killed by automobiles than guns. That way, people would slow way down as to save the gas they have.Good logic?
