how many of you said you would never give up film and go digital?

never say never!!

unfortunately, i think everything will eventually go to touch screens. ipad technology is going to take over everything.

i am no fan of touch screen anything.....

...........but it's going to happen.

maybe i should count all the things i am doing now that i said i would never do...or refused to do....

crow sure tastes funny.

i have made my living using computers the last 20 years or so.
not every upgrade i have seen has been for the better.

i just roll with the flow, i guess.

but i definitely do not like touch screens.
how many of you said you would never give up film ... (show quote)

I will say never, I will never own this particular model unless someone gives it to me. I don't like touch pads and the lack of a view finder kills it for me.

Even though I like the idea of mirrorless I have too much invested in lenses to switch manufacturers so I guess I will just have to wait and see what else Canon is going to do.

Geez I hope not. I can see it now. Sliding and tapping and sliding and tapping and wiping and sliding and tapping, a wiping and sliding and tapping and wiping and then wiping again so just before taking the shot!

What was I going to shoot again? Oh yes that was it, but it is gone. Wait here is something new. I'll get that shot but first:

sliding and tapping and wiping and sliding and tapping....

As one of the young ones, I love me a touch screen. However, I wouldn't touch a camera with one! Maybe for something like autofocus, or zooming into a photo on a P&S. Still, yuck.

I was really hoping for a view finder. Not so I would buy it but rather it might get Fuji to lower their price on the X100!

I will not go to touch screen, I will go back to film if its still around. Of course that goes for me also, who knows I may not be around tomorrow. :)

Thanks for the real information on this with the link that gives all the specifics from a reliable source.

So far, four different threads established in just one day on the "Canon EOS M" (the camera's actual name):

1.New Canon Mirrorless
2.Let the feeding frenzy begin
3.Finally a Canon looses its mirror
4.Canon releases the EOS M Mirrorless Camera

Using the Forum "Search" tool for the camera's name, "Canon EOS M", what the camera is called in your link, the only hit was the No. 4, which is NOT in the main Forum, but under "Links and Resources."

It would be nice if folks followed the Forum "Rules" and used specific, helpful headings. Like using real names for an item for a discussion topic.

I guess it's too much to expect that, if there is any thing like a real moderator, they will do anything about this problem of disparate postings on the same topic.

I wouldn't call myself a Canon Fanboi, but I've got a major investment in Canon gear. I looked at the M and thought to myself, "Meh". Does the P&S market RLY need this? I guess I was hoping for something that gave the sony NEX series a run.

Might of been interesting in 2009.

I'm not yet decided about touch screen. I would want a honeymoon period with a camera equipped with one before deciding.
With this camera this question is moot. No Viewfinder! What were they thinking? That no one would want to take action shots with this camera?
I'd rather have a G series.

So, Canon has finally introduced their mirror less camera, but it's aimed at snap shooters and has a list price of $799 with a 22mm kit lens. Is anyone else amazed at the high price, regardless of the sensor/features for basically an APS-C point and shoot camera? I wish I could put the Canon 18MP sensor in a Sony A77, with a Canon mount for about $1000. Now THAT would be the killer camera for someone like me!

It seems like this is a step backward from the SX40 IS at a lot more money. No real view finder. Short focal length lens. It is smaller. Seems like there are a bunch of Bridge camera's out that have more appeal. Not sure where Canon is headed with this.

i have tons of bucks invested in my gear and i will use my stuff til i expire. i am not getting rid of my stuff because someone is hot on the mirrorless stuff. heck, i am just learning how to take good photos with what i got. i am not starting over.

i do have a tablet (motorola xoom) that i use to watch tutorial videos and learn stuff. it's touch screen like all tablets......and i definitely do not like it......but it's light and thin (opposite of me)..and is easy to cart around with me everywhere. touch screen sucks in my opinion.
i am saving up for the 5d mk3 and that's it for me. i'll use that along with my 7d...............and i will continue to learn and hone my skills. by that time, i will dare any of the new mirrorless users to shoot a better picture than me.

i know will crockett on shootsmarter.com is hopped up on the mirrorless......he can have it.

i am with you all on this subject. i am tired of spending my bucks on crap i don't need.

if you seen the pile of studio lighting, electronics, cameras, lenses, etc......that i have acquired the last few years....it's ridiculous and most i don't use.

I have been think and pondering just what I need to do what I want to do. I am waiting for the new replacement for the canon XS 40, If it fills the bill, so long DSLR. I am tired of toting all that stuff. I find that the camera I use most is my trusty G10. If Canon comes out with a replacement for the G12 I will give it a serious look. I am considering the new Canon Power Shot GX1. Big sensor but I would like a f2 lens. I don't shoot bears, or lions, or other safari stuff so a long bazooka lens is not my cup of tea. I would like a canon power shot GX2 with a 28/135 f2 lens and I would be happy as a pig in well you know what.

We will see what the future holds. But, no more changing lenses for me. I really want out of that business.

Ever since canon screwed all the film guys converting
to digital by not alowing existing glass to be used on
digital cameras, because they changed the mount;
they can wrot in hell.

Far as I concerned, I would only buy sony, nikon, etc...

Canon will not see one red penny from me, or my friends.

I am not so blown away by the price, because I paid far more for my 7D and the 40D when that was a more up-to-date body. I do wonder how soon if ever the mirror less cameras will have a full arsenal of L lenses and capabilities to replace the cumbersome SLRs that dominate the pro market today. If I could have a couple of those hanging on me with smaller lenses I would enjoy photography even more, but I will not touch them until they have state of the art performance.

Wow. I can't imagine the impact that must be having on Canon's bottom line. Really. I just can't even imagine.

So just to put this into perspective, you're pissed off from the late 80's when Canon decided to move the focus motor out of the camera body and into the lens and re-engineer the mount to not use mechanical pins and such.

You do understand how sad that sounds. Go tell the nice lady in the flower scrubs to wheel you back in time for dinner

Pins and such?
They are the only ones that did it. Whats wrong with pins, flashes, lenses, still use them.
Just goes to show you what kind a company they are.
At that time,"Screw the customers?" just a little nervy?

and this latest effort, sorry but its baaaaaaaaadddddd.
