If you are willing to pay upfront, I got mine approximately a month after paying at B&H.
Wasn't my concern, just a comment back to the OP. Of course the world market is much bigger than the US but if the world demand is high, how are so many of them getting into the US market? Apparently there is not that big a demand throughout the world as in the US, so the excess can be brought into the US for sale on eBay and other smaller camera shops. On the other hand, personally, I'd prefer to wait for a US warrantied model just so I could have confidence that I could have USA Nikon service my camera if needed. At the same time, the only Nikon item I've had to have serviced in nearly 40 years was two years ago, on my old Nikon F4, well out of warranty, so it went to APS for an LCD replacement and CLA. I'm not in such a hurry to get a D850 (or any Nikon gear) that I'd forego the USA warranty just to satisfy a GAS attack.
Not to suggest that you haven't looked into all the aspects of the 610 ....which I agree is a rotten camera for auto focus .
Have you seen Steve Perry's Book "Secretes to the Nikon Autofocus System?
The 610 is still a terrible camera but there was a lot of very helpful advice to getting the darn thing to work better.
I have had to service, using warranty, was the D7000. With no warranty, I have had to service my D3, 500mm, and now I just sent in my 1.4x III teleconverter. I only purchase cameras/lenses with a USA warranty.
From what I've heard there is a shortage in the sensor production, hence the delay in delivering the D850.
Nikon has other cameras such as the D810 which would meet your requirements.

There are plenty of D850's available if you are willing to accept a "grey market, no Nikon USA warranty" camera. Supposedly a "grey market" Nikon D850 is exactly the same as a USA warrantied camera. It is just the USA warranty. The big question to Nikon is why are there so many "grey market" D850's available and such a back log on USA warrantied D850's if they are indeed the same camera.
For a camera that pricey, I'd want a good warranty.

OOk so the camera is crap and you need the warranty.
You might try Roberts Camera, I talked with Stephanie and got my 850 in less than 3 weeks. I typically shop B&H and Adorama but their wait time was too long. They also included an extra battery (real Nikon)with the purchase for new customers. Tom
As is often the case, Chris, your question has gotten a bit off subject. What you might consider is ordering, from someone reliable, to be put on their waiting list, and then keep looking. If you find the camera elsewhere, buy it and then cancel your order.
You will LUV your 850!! Great choice.
(And, as an aside, I would not hesitate to buy a Nikon product in the Grey Market. I own two Nikon's bought Grey Market and both are wonderful. The top warranty company in the USA reports that the incident of Nikon Camera Repairs during the first year is less than 1%! So the odds are seriously in your favor even if you don't buy an extended warranty on the camera.) Not a recommendation, just a thought.
Whatever you do enjoy your new camera.
It's my understanding if you buy an 850 from a foreign dealer, they are not covered by US warranty.
I am pretty frustrated with the shortage of the 850's. Yes, demand is outstripping supply in the US by definition, meaning if I want one and can't find it anywhere, they are not supplying.
I have a Canon 5Dmk3, but am very interested in the 850's as the 5Dmk4 seems to be quite deficient in capabilities relative to the 850.
I guess I'll just sit and wait.

I have a D610 but I am frustrated by the continuous auto focus to not capture the focus on birds in flight, motor sports and soccer more than 60-75% of the time. However, no one seems to have them in stock. Do you think the back log of orders will be gone by August? I want to shoot motor sports in September and would like to have the new camera by then. I am wondering if it is a Nikon production problem or a demand outstripping supply flow? Both?
Thanks

Chris, I read so much about the issues with getting the D850 in the States and it is difficult to comprehend the reason because they are available here in India. With respect to shooting action and fast moving subjects, have you considered the D500? I would seriously look at it, alongside the perceived crop, it has an awesome focusing system and buffer to boot. I have the D850 too but my preferred choice of body for quick action remains to be the D500. Even when shooting erratic fast flyers like swallows and bee eaters in flight, it performs flawlessly.

Went on a cruise to St. Thomas with friends in April. My buddy bought one from the big camera seller there. Pretty good price and a lot of extras.

I would place an order with B&H and Adorama and whichever one gets them first is yours and cancel the other.
