The D850 is as fast as the D5 for focusing. I own both and use both for different conditions. D5 for sports, fast action and poor lighting conditions and the D850 for all else. On the D850 I added the battery pack for 2 reasons 1 it gave 2 more frames per second and it uses the same battery as the D5.

I was in BestBuy in the South Austin store and they had them in stock. Did you ever order one?

I am very interested in getting a D850. I have a D610 but I am frustrated by the continuous auto focus to not capture the focus on birds in flight, motor sports and soccer more than 60-75% of the time. However, no one seems to have them in stock. Do you think the back log of orders will be gone by August? I want to shoot motor sports in September and would like to have the new camera by then. I am wondering if it is a Nikon production problem or a demand outstripping supply flow? Both?
Thanks

If you don't have one for motorsports I highly recommend the D500. I use the D500 for things like that more often than my D850.

B&H seems to have them in stock. I find their prices very competitive and shipping very fast.
