Maybe it's just me being a "belt & suspenders" type of guy, but if you are taking a once in a lifetime trip and are going to the trouble of shooting exposures in RAW mode, I would do two things. Bring at least twice the capacity in cards for the number of anticipated shots, AND I would invest in a portable, external HDD. I would upload the pics to the HDD every night, and then Lock and preserve the photos on the cards as they fill. SD cards are an awesome storage media, but they are easily lost, hence the external HDD. Just sayin'

I have used external HDDs when traveling and they can be unreliable and add weight and bulk. High quality USB flash memory sticks are reliable, take up much less space and weigh almost nothing. This is important when traveling around the world.

I just got back from Europe on Friday. When I checked into Air New Zealand at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), they weighed my carryon role-aboard camera case and informed me that I was limited to only 7 Kg (15.4 lb.) in the cabin overhead. I told the women at the counter that the 34 lb. case contained expensive cameras and she had me open it. When she saw that I wasn't kidding, she got a supervisor to approve my taking it into the cabin after I redistributed a token amount of weight to other luggage my wife and I were taking. I had no problem returning through Heathrow. The point is that as airlines are tightening up to soak the public, size and wight is becoming an issue that must be taken into consideration; especially on international carriers.

It is not our place as readers and hopefully

correct grammar of one who wants advice.
There are many reasons why one has not

500 to 750 photographs? I hope that is per day! I would take multiple cards because I would take many more photos. But, that's just me. Have a great trip!

Don't worry about not bringing enough - we sell them over here as well.

Point well stated; however, on our trips to Europe we have rarely seen a camera store. Perhaps we simply missed them, but I needed a SD card once ( not an emergency) & we never saw a place to buy one (or stores were closed). Again, my situation was “nice to have found one” & not an emergency.

Several smaller cards are preferable to one or two large ones. That covers you for losses and breakdowns. Even better is a second body in case camera failure.

That is a great idea. I doubt that I can even do 200 or more in a day. If I did, I would need 12 16 GB cards. How long does it take you to download 200 of your 46 MB files?

To copy a full SD card to the WD? Maybe 10 - 15 minutes, tops. i would set it up and go to dinner, when we got back, the process would be over, and the drive would have automatically powered down.

I travel extensively throughout the year and from experience I have moved it to the next level. Yes, I always take extra SD and/or Compact Flash cards for I have had them crash. I go further by taking a small laptop computer (12" Lenovo) and a Seagate External 1.5tb hard drive to back up on. The small lap top and hard drive fit easily into my carry-on bag and my camera bag with a 5dMlll, 16-35, 24-105, 70-300 and 1.4 50mm goes as my "personal item". Tripod goes in checkin. I back up every single evening to both computer and hard-drive. After backing up I usually spend a few minutes doing a speed edit to eliminate the obvious bad photos. I use Lightroom Classic and do the editing directly from the external hard drive so when I get home I can plug the hard drive into my desktop (where the second licensed copy of Lightroom is installed) This way I have backup on cards, computer and hard-drive. Upon arriving home I back up to a second external hard drive my Lightroom Catalog. Keep it in a separate location so I never lose anything short of a major disaster. As a final touch, I then delete all files off of the lap-top and reformat my cards so everything is ready to go on the next shoot.

Are they compatible with English speaking cameras?

I do almost the same but use an Asus 13” Zen laptop , two 1-2 WD HDs, extra CF, SD, and XQD cards Daily down a copy to oneHD (for LR) and use the second external HD as backup

Actually, I don't use the Internet when I travel. It is too risky.

You don't use the internet to backup your files with this device.
