Aye, yi yi. Though only about 30% of the time. The rest of the time I use Program, then adjusting the parameters chosen by the camera to get the effect I hope for. Usually concerned about aperture and depth of field. Have never used auto.
My daughter-in-law has never taken her Nikon D3200 off auto, nor has she removed the kit lens that came with the camera. She gets great pics of her children and the occasional family gathering. I sometimes edit them a bit for her, mostly cropping. Are her photos art? They are to her.
In short, use what works for you and your subject.
