I wanted grand vistas showing the rolling layers. I wanted blue skies and maybe some white puffies. I got dense fog and constant rain. But I did get a bear and some elk and a LOT of spontaneous waterfalls.
You get what you can in photography. I once drove 3 hrs on Maui (with a crashing hangover - I was younger then) to get to the top of Halelaikia to capture sunrise only to find a cloud layer that prevented seeing anything.

Yep. Got nothing but fog as close as my nose from the top of Pike's Peak. We do what we can, no?

Looks like Cade’s Cove and Roaring Fork. Nice captures
Before the arson fire Roaring Fork was also a great wildlife location.

Thanks, Snappy. Did both. Can't recall the wildlife at Roaring Fork. I think the bear, maybe. The elk were at the entrance from Cherokee.
I'm sorry your week there was a bit of a disappointment, Kathy, but you captured some wonderful wildlife and beautiful scenery nonetheless.
Nice variety, and shot well!
Beautiful light on the stream, great job with the exposure and details too. That was no easy photo op and you showed your experience and knowledge. Fun critters too! Kathy, thank you for the reminder that photographers just need open their eyes to what is around them and the opportunities will be there, no matter the weather.
Maybe not the images that you were hoping for, Kathy. But they aren't turkeys (couldn't resist). Your experience is exactly why I feel so blessed on those rare-and-wonderful occasions when the conditions I had hoped for actually happen and I get a killer shot. Don't give up on the Smokys, but shoot for Autumn next time. It can really be magical.

Thank you, Donna. I keep telling myself that it wasn't a bust because I did get some interesting stuff. I just didn't get what I wanted! That's the trouble, I guess, with preconceived ideas?

Thanks! Some I worked on and some I just snapped. Having a good camera really helps!
