I'm amazed at the number of folks recommending lenses that you don't have, especially after you specified your choices.

full sensor 24-70
crop sensor 16-80 2.8 nikon
with a crop sensor it it already cropped to 150% so a high pexiel camera you could crop it to hell and back. My D500 without the battery grip and the nikon 16-80 is very light for travel. AND... this lens has a min focal length of 12" for up close and very sharp. Much as the 24-70 is for the full frame.

Will be on a cruise from London to Iceland with stops in Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Iceland will be new for me and we have 4 stoops there. Due to many factors, I will take minimal gear. I have a choice of my 24-70 or my 70-200. If you had to choose, which would you think most important for the Iceland portion of the trip?

If I could only take one I would opt for the 70-200. The 70 end can be used to take multiple images that can be stitched later in post to create a wide angle image. The 24-70 can only be a 24-70

The lens on your super-zoom Pocket camera... 24-1200... Oh! OK! take along a 10X close up screw-on, a CPF, and to get fancy a split field. Leave the heavy stuff at home.

Ha Ha! The super zooms that have a 1200mm reach are not quite pocket cameras....I think the OP was asking about a lens he already has, to use with a camera he already has.....

Thanks for all the input. I am a bit confused by recommendations to buy a new lens. If I wanted long reach I would take my 200-500 lens. I have experience with the lens recommended and I do not care for them either because they are too slow or resolution not up to the lenses I have. I will take my 24-70, and figure out a way to take my 70-200 as well with a 1.4 teleconverter.

I agree the 24/70 would be the best choice if you had to choose. I would figure out a way to take more than one lens. Don't bother with the suggestion about the converter. The 24/70 rear lens element is too close to the mount to allow the converter to fit.

I would take an 18-135mm or something in that range, depending on your camera. OR if a Canon cropped the 55-250mm, I find it to be a very sharp lens, particularly for a kit lens.

Take the 24-70mm; it is the most versatile. You will shoot more landscape type photos than longer distance.

Nalu, the converter is for the 70-200 not the 24-70

Well if it were me I would take the 24-70 because I would want wider shots of Iceland glaciers and Scottish castles

This response is absolutely irrelevant to the question.... I'm beginning to support the adoption of passing some type of reading Comprehension test required to become a member of this site. Perhaps at the 3rd grade level....would eliminate this type of answer to a properly stated question.
