Will be on a cruise from London to Iceland with stops in Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Iceland will be new for me and we have 4 stoops there. Due to many factors, I will take minimal gear. I have a choice of my 24-70 or my 70-200. If you had to choose, which would you think most important for the Iceland portion of the trip?

I would opt for the 24-70. It will record scenes better

Hi lrm
I've never been to any of those places but I'd probably prefer take the risk with wide rather than long - so I'd think the 24-70.

But if I had to minimise my gear, I'd consider just a 24 pancake on a crop, or a 40 pancake on a FF

I also agree that given the choice of the two lenses that the 24-70 will be the most versatile for walk-around photography. The 70-200 is also one of the trinity of must have lenses and great if you are a distance from your subjects on your tour however if I were to only take one, it would be the 24-70.

Iceland, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Think landscapes. It would have to be the 24-70, but see if you can borrow a 2X converter from a friend just in case.

I'd agree. You can probably crop to "zoom in" in post, but you won't be able to get wider with the 70-200.

The 24-70 would be my choice. It rides on my D-800 99% of the time.

24-70 and crop if need be and use well applied software pixel enlargement if necessary - hopefully you have a high pixel density body.

I have been to Iceland and I'm going back in Aug. All my thoughts and plans are between 24-70.

Not sure a converter is a good idea. Might want to check compatibility as both the lens and converter could possibly sustain damage.

The 28-300 will be SLOW, SLOW, SLOW!!!
In other words, useless in anything other than the best light!!!
