I like to look at current camera prices, and I was just on the Best Buy site and noticed that the NIkon D7200 with the 18-140 lens is listed for $1099.99, while the D7100 is listed at $1299.99. Can this be correct, a camera several years older in production listed for $200.00 more than the newer one? This doesn't seem right! B&H has the D7100 and the same lens shown for $996.95.
A lot has to do with what Nikon is offering them, temporary "deals," etc. I doubt many people would choose the D7100 body over the D7200 body/lens combo.
When Nikon runs a sale it pertains to specific items. It is not unusual for the sale item to be lower priced than something that would usually be cheaper. They sometimes sell new for less than refurb.
Right now on the Nikon site the D7200 and the D7100 (body only) are both listed a $799.

You might also try Hunt's Photo - great prices and great service. Ask to talk to Alan. I bought all my Olympus camera and lens stuff from him.
What you have observed does happen from time to time but it's not usually up to the camera store but the camera maker. Nikon is currently running a deal on the 7200.
As for shopping at BB, they have their pros and cons. They don't usually have higher end cameras, it depends on the area. Their prices are sometimes higher than B&H and Adorama but they do price match them. You have the option of walking into a BB store and buying the camera right then and there for the same price you'd pay at the online camera stores. You also have the option to purchase an insurance plan from BB. This will cover the cost of the camera and you can literally smash it on the ground and take it in for a replacement.
t could be a misprint but understand NOBODY at Best Buy knows much about photography.

Check out Greentoe.com and make a lower offer. Everything there is sold by USA dealers with free shipping, tax included and USA warranty.

Best Buy doesn't have a clue how to compete in the age of the Internet. When we Boomers die off, they'll be gone. Only die hard traditionalists shop there.
Use a real camera store, either brick-and-mortar, or online!
I can always think of many good reasons to shop at B&H and Adorama. I can't say the same for Best Buy.

I should have clarified by stating that we only have two places here to shop for cameras.
Here are two more (on-line). B&H and Adorama are great stores--knowledgeable staff, they deliver everywhere promptly, and they have good return policies. Roberts Camera in Indianapolis is also good. I hardly buy anything at our local camera stores because their stock is so limited that they never have what I am looking for.
Well Nikon is offering a number of sales at the moment, and instant rebates. That may explain the difference. I got my D750 with the 24 to 120 lens from Best Buy, and actually had a pretty knowledgeable sales person help me. Though I also had a substantial amount in gift cards to defray a lot of the cost. Since I once again have a goodly amount of gift cards again will probably be getting my next lens there, the Nikkor 200mm to 500.

The 7200 body is less than $800 now, refurb 750 at B&H
If you want to pay top dollar for a camera, go to Best Buy. Even when they have cameras on sale, your not getting much off. I like to price cameras also and find sometimes online pricing doesn't make much sense.

That's the problem, there's not many brick & mortar camera stores. Everything's on line.
I'm not looking to buy anything at the moment, but I do like to keep abreast of what's going on, marketwise. I just thought this might be an anomoly. I mean, why would they price the older one higher than the newer one? Doesn't make sense, especially when B&H has them both priced similarly. I agree, though, BB's sales people aren't usually knowledgeable when it comes to cameras and photography. My experience with BB is whatever one you're looking at "is a good one and takes very nice pictures." I find that the best way to shop cameras and gear at BB is to arm oneself with some knowledge beforehand so you don't have to ask a salesperson a question they can't answer.
