Doesn’t wasabi come from the Irish green horseradish?

On a serious note my father used to pick horseradish when I was about four years old. He then ground it himself in an old hand grinder. For people who cry when peeling onions the grinding of horseradish gives a whole new level of watering eyes.

Yes that was quite common and part of the family garden. Our area produces a very white variety and a good whiff will take your breath away!

I have cameras that take The Sony NP FW50 batteries. a7s II, RX10 III, a6300 & a6000, RX100 III etc.

They all take these batteries. And as Sony make these camera's more technological they are OK but not great.

I use Wasabi off brand and a bag of batteries. The original battery is $50 for one. I have found my pro XDCam

camcorder batteries work great last a long time. I can get 2 wasabi batteries and a charger for $26. They have been

safe and work well. Do research online and figure out which of the offerings is a good battery. I think I have 25 of

these batteries and always have a few with me. Have not been shooting large amounts of stills or video in one

day. A soccer game grab shooting scenes and stills using less then one battery. Do some research. It will work.

I have used off brand batteries in everything from cameras to power tools.
The results have been very good.
If they don't last as long or have a shorter life, you can buy several for the price of an OEM battery

I bought a HAHNEL (extra capacity) battery for my CANON 60D last year. Seems to have about the same capacity as 7yr. old CANON, which has diminished in capacity over the 6 years I've had the camera.
But I've not had any problems with it - and it's a helluva lot cheaper!

I have used batteries of other brands in my Canons and have had no problems. I've bought them 4 times, one for each camera. The last was Vivitar brand, another was CS Power.

Same with my 3 Sony and with my Canon SX50,,,, not a bit of problem. Genuine OEM only is one of the many photography myths. Altho I think there was a time when they had a chip in the batteries so that ONLY genuine OEM would work, same with inks.

I have bought 2nd party batteries for both my Nikons and Olympus cameras. I probably have half a dozen of various brands. I basically see no difference between original and 2nd party except the cost.

First of all, there is a difference between "camera branded batteries", "off-branded batteries", "generic (unbranded) batteries", and "counterfeit batteries". If you are going to use off-brands, do some homework and see which are the best for your needs. I would really avoid the "no-brand" batteries. Also, beware of branded batteries that are too cheap. They are probably counterfeit.

I have been using both brand and off-brand batteries for years. So far, they have not damaged any cameras. However, I have found that off-brand batteries do not provide as many shots as the real ones-- anywhere from about 35% to 75% of the real ones. However, they are OK for backup purposes.

Duh. Wait until your non-brand batteries leak and destroy the innards of your camera. Happened to me and now I only use the expensive one...not too much of an expense compared to a lost camera.

Please, what myth are you talking about? How did Nikon create the myth?

People using all types of cameras seem to have had both good and bad experiences using non OEM batteries.

After giving the issue considerable thought, it occurs to me that the non-OEM manufacturers are stealing legitimate profits that belong to the camera manufacturers........How is this crime different than piracy of motion pictures or other art?

I only disagree with you 100%.

Nikon did not invent li-ion technology. Nikon does not manufacture batteries. Nikon OEM batteries are third party.

Legitimate profits? My Wasabi battery and charger for the D850 were $106, decoded and work perfectly. The Nikon branded equivalents are $650.

All that for technology that Nikon stole.

I bought Vivitar batteries on Ebay or Amazon - I can't remember which offhand - for my Nikon D5500 and they are great and twice the AmpHours as the original Nikon kit battery.
Nikon don't make batteries, they are made for Nikon. Highly recommended!
