Camera Genuine Brand Batteries
I have a Nikon D3300 Camera with two genuine EN-EL14a Batteries.
I would like another EN-EL14a battery, should I consider used or only New?
I have read that I should NOT use "Off-Brand" batteries due to the possibility they might do damage to my Nikon D3300, but the Genuine Nikon EN-EL14a are so expensive.

I have used batteries of other brands in my Canons and have had no problems. I've bought them 4 times, one for each camera. The last was Vivitar brand, another was CS Power.
You will get many comments pro and con regarding the use of non camera manufacturer batteries. I have used non original batteries in the past with no problems whatsoever in a few Nikons.

A 3rd party battery won't damage your camera. The issue is that, over time, sometimes in as little as 6 months, they loose the ability to hold a charge for extended time. So you will not get anything like the battery life you do from an OEM battery.
I have bought and used both, my experience the Nikon ones seem to last a little longer than the third party brands. I know with my d500 I only use Nikon batts because of the battery issue. My d750 seem to chug along fine with any Nikon or otherwise!

I have used third party Batteries for years with no problem. Go to Amazon or B&H look at the reviews, and you should be fine.

There are no problems with 3rd party batteries on the Nikon d3300. The main issue you may run into is that off brand batteries sometimes do not last as long as the Nikon brand. If you have a good camera store, or a Best Buy store in your area, check with them to see what they have, otherwise check with B&H Photo or Adorama online.
One thing to note, Nikon is starting to add to their firmware the ability to not allow off brand batteries to work with their equipment. One example, I have the Nikon D500 and it will not work with a 3rd party battery, so if you ever upgrade your camera body check the battery requirements before buying. On the other side of your question, I personally would never purchase a used battery. I can see no reason to trade in a battery other than it is wearing out and not functioning correctly.

The GENUINE Nikon batteries are $ 41 -- not that much im my opinion. B&H has a couple of used ones for $ 30 and a V2 Watson for $ 32. Not a big savings, again IMHO. Rest happy that you don't have a D5 where the batteries cost $ 149! Best of luck.
I own a Nikon DX camera. My spare is a Watson battery. I have had no problems.
Camera manufacturers got wise to competition and they programmed ways for the camera to stop when someone else’s batteries are used. Manufacturers of non-OEM batteries programmed ways to work around or circumvent any built-in restrictions the manufacturers installed. And so the back and forth battle goes. I have used non-OEM batteries in the past, but I will not do so again. After giving the issue considerable thought, it occurs to me that the non-OEM manufacturers are stealing legitimate profits that belong to the camera manufacturers. You don’t like the cost of the batteries, buy a different camera. But you say all the manufacturers are over-charging? Take up knitting instead. How is this crime different than piracy of motion pictures or other art?
I'd prefer purchasing new batteries. But, that's just my philosophy.

Third party batteries from B&H for mainstream cameras will be of good quality. I think their brand is Watson.
I use n9n OEM batteries in my D7100 all the time and never have an issue using them. Even if they only last for a year I can buy 3 for the price of one Nikon. Make sure you get decoded ones or they may not work. As far as used ones I would not even consider it.
Some people get too hung up on branding no matter the cost and in essence what you pay a premium for is the brand name and not the product itself.

Regardless whether you buy off brand or not, I would not buy a used battery. You don't know how it has been used (or abused) and you don't know how much life it has left.

Perhaps we can follow the battery brand use up with a discussion on the use of filters for protection!
