I like #8 the best. You can run through all the possible effects with a single slider instead of more than one with the channel mixer.

Each one produces a slightly different result. Being familiar with all the methods makes it easier to decide which method works best on specific images.

Meaning no disrespect but if you love photography and Black and White it might be a good time to upgrade.
Since you have been using PS7 for 15 years you already know the program.....Why not upgrade?

And then there is Bridge.....What a great little Adobe program.
You dont 't have to go for a CC subscription there are many other choices out there ...... Elements 15 for one.
