Above is a self-portrait oil painting by LeRoy Neiman.

If you're going to heavily filter/artwork an image it is really important to visualise before hand and have some sort of plan and end result in mind. I get the strong impression with this you have just applied the effect to a random photo. The end result is therefore discordant and doesn't tell a story.

I agree with you, and that pretty well sums up the conclusion I was in the process of getting. I learn from experimenting, and sometimes the results are intriguing enough to ask for the opinion of others. You should see some of my colossal failures!

Personally I do go for the arty stuff myself, or at the very least the not overly predictable stuff. There are some terrific software packages nowadays and the female form lends itself perfectly for that sort of interpretation. It is all about experimenting (as you seem to be aware) to begin with, and to finding out what works with what. And once that is understood to a reasonable level it amazing how the quality of work increases dramatically. When I look back on my very early work I shudder but there's no way I would chuck it out as it was an important part of my learning and improving (and it gives me a laugh from time to time ). I think it is a good thing that you sought feedback on this image. Of course everyone's interpretation will be different but we can all always improve. I guess that's the fun and challenge of photography.

Although this may be a Nude, which it does not indicate. Perhaps you should post it in the section for special art effects.

I love playing with Dynamic Auto Painter. I have used that and a couple of other techniques to produce an "interesting" image. I'll take any feedback.

Would enjoy seeing the original without the special effects.

It is amazing how negative the comments are here when someone tries post processing while in other places the opposite happens.

I've noticed it. Here, it's an appreciation of the female form too much. In other words, if you can't improve on it don't mess with it. The female form is a sad thing to waste.

That is exactly the point I was making. There is a definite desire something that I can't put my finger on, in this forum. Some seem to be here just to see a naked woman, as opposed to a nude one. The paucity of male nudes is also a bit odd. Classic art was often male nudes and many early photographs were more male. This forum is decidedly more related to the female figure. Maybe males are more comfortable using female models and there are more male photographers here on UHH.

Yes, I like the rendition, what setting did you use in DAP, or is this another program?

It takes people time to adjust to Stravinsky like music, and impressionistic paintings. Personally I have used DAP for years and of late surly due to Mad Cow Disease from eating burgers have ventured into "Style", DeepDreams [by Google], Painnt [yes 2 Ns] and others. Guaranteed to drive the SSOC people to violence.

Seeing a nude is seeing a nude, but almost seeing a nude is enhanced by our beautifully naturally perverted male nature.

This reply doesn't sound like you, Mr. Pullum. Not at all like you.

And, the SSOC? Is it for: Singapore Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic.

Perhaps you really do have Mad Cow Disease.

I find the large blue blob below her chest distracting. It looks like a distorted breast, which I know it isn't; but it really takes the focus away from the woman.

One of my favorite lines, when I get playing with the "Tools" too deeply, comes from Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park when he says "Just because we can do it does not mean we should".
