As a Newburgher, right across the river from you, I know what you are saying. Suggest Mt. Beacon from some high point in Newburgh or the river front, Walkway across the Hudson joining Highland and Poughkeepsie, Bannerman's (Pelopel) Island and the cut through the highlands by the Hudson River between Storm King Mountain and Breakneck Ridge from some place in Newburgh or New Windsor.

Almost anywhere in New England can be a photog's paradise. From the small quaint little villages along the Atlantic seacoast, to the summertime fun in the lakes region to the White Mountains year round, all have their seasonal benefits for capturing that fraction of a second that won't ever happen again, you just have to be there!

Your post here reminds me of a comment in a book on photography I read over 30 years ago. It said your backyard is the other side of the world to someone on the other side of the world.
Your comment about passengers and the bus and looking at the photos years later reminds me of years ago I used to take pictures of movie posters. I was developing some that were nearly 20 years old one time in a public darkroom and one of the guys in there exclaimed "hey that was a good movie". And went on to talk about. I had not seen the movie but seeing the photo made him happy. :-)

For me, it's Moab, UT and Rocky Mountain National Park. Then there is also Estes Park when the elk are wandering through town.

My favorite place to photograph is wherever I am with my camera! There is always something to photograph if you look around.
