Anyone out there own this relatively new lens? Interested in your observations.

It says it has Vibration Compensation but I don't see it. If I had it all to do over again I'd pass on this lens. Canon 7d Mark II.
Have seen some reviews on youtube. Seems to be a great lens.

I have this lens since early October and am very happy with it. Yes it does have VC (left side of the lens next to the AF switch on my Nikon version) and it seems to work well. At 18 to 400 the reach is quite good for an all-around lens while yielding some decent pictures. The AF seems to work pretty fast and is accurate for my needs. They experts recommend to shoot in the mid-range of the aperture range. It's quality is good for its price range. I am using it on a Nikon D7500. It's not a professional lens, b ut does keep this hobbyist quite happy...
Here's some examples:

The OP was wanting feedback on the 100-400mm lens not the 18-400mm lens. That is a totally different beast.

When the Tamron Rep was at my local camera store I got to try it out on my Nikon D-750 and took quite a few test shots. It stacked up well against my Tamron 70-300mm. It was a tad bit sharper with a little more reach, but not enough for me to purchase it on the spot. They had one copy for Nikon and was bought as I was still in the store. It has a lot going for it, small and light for a 400mm lens, if I didn't already have a good 70-300mm I would have gone for it.
Oops... I can see what you mean...

I recently purchased this lens. Its looked very good on my D850 at close distance and lower focal lengths. I could not get a consistently sharp image at 400 mm. At first I thought it was the lens. Then I put it on my D500 and it produced sharp images. So I put my Nikon 200-500 on the D850 and it too would not produce a sharp image at 500mm. I know from past experience this lens is sharp.
Packed up my D850 along with sample images and will send them to Nikon. I think the camera is defective. The exposure seems off as well.
Getting back to the Tamron... it feels good on the camera, weighs 2.5 pound and handles well. It seems to be very sharp and the stabilization is awesome. I was getting good images at 1/30s, f6.3, 400 mm on the D500. Focuses quickly and accurately. The build quality is very good. Since the tripod mount is optional and not yet available I have not been able to test it on a tripod. I have one pre-ordered as well as the tap in council.

Attached are 2 images from the Tamron at 400mm on the D500, both hand held with stabilization on.
1. 1/200s, f8, ISO125.
2. 1/30s, f8, ISO450.
I think that the stabilization did this old geezer's hands proud.
I am deeply grateful to all who have taken the time to reply.

Maybe you have a defective lens as the VC on my Tamron 100-400 most certainly works and makes a difference.
The attached photo was at 400mm taken hand held of an aircraft which to the naked eye looked like a white spec.
