The FZ 300 has a Leica f2.8 constant aperture throughout it's 25- 600 range. Even though it has a small sensor it beats many of the larger sensor cameras in most camera comparison reviews.

By definition, a bridge camera is not a DSLR.

At least two more questions need to be answered:

Is long zoom important?
Is size important, i.e. do you want a small pocketable camera?

If long zoom is not important and small size is not important, imho the best bridge camera out there in your price range is the Sony RX10 either version 1 or 2.

If long zoom is not important but small size is then the Sony RX100 is the best bridge camera in that price range.

If small size is important and medium zoom is enough then the Panasonic ZS100 is one of the best bridge cameras.

If long zoom is important, small size is out and there are many good choices, as mentioned in other posts above.

Quite right, it is a camera that can be used to take pictures of bridges.

I have used the Canon G3 X now for about 2 years and love it. The only feature that it lacks is the viewfinder, but that has not been a problem for me. It has been great for capturing things like hummingbirds, and cropping photos still having good quality prints. I have taken many photos with the camera mounted on a monopod with good results, and easy to use.

try these websites for comparison and see which cameras are mentioned more than the others; then look at the features you want and decide which one to buy.

Just as a quick observation, it seems the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 comes out on top more than the others AND this is based on your criteria of it being less than $1000.

I have the HX 100 -- and satisfied with it-- why not try a used one first? There are many choices!

The Lumix FZ 1000 is the best of the Bridge cameras Leica 25 to 400 zoom lens, Raw /JPEG, 1inch sensor. 5 way anti vibration and superb cine if you want it. The stills are as good if not better than many quality DSLRs Handle it if you can to see if it feels right. Buy from B&H or Adorama. Refurbished from a trusted source May be a start

I currently own and like my Canon SX50, it has been super ceded by the SX 60. But if I had the $$$ I would get the Sony HX 400. Hard to beat the Zeiss lens.
