I'm guessing that first decimal point is a comma. There are lots to choose from in the 1,000 $ category, US and Canadian. For the money one of your best options is a Sony A6300 kit. Personally, I'm waiting for the G1X III to hit the street.

Bridge cameras are generally not more than $1000. You need to decide first whether you want a super zoom camera or one with moderate zoom.

A Bridge camera is almost a look a like DSLR camera that has one fixed, non interchangeable lens. The focal range varies depending on the Brand and price you pay. Actually, a DSLR is a point and shoot too. What decatagorizes it, is that it is capable of changing lenses. Generally, some point and shoot cameras do not have a Viewfinder, and they would be categorized as a real point and shoot camera. You use the LCD screen only. You can find plenty of point and shoot cameras with or without a Viewfinder for less than $1000. Compacts and pocket cameras too. Those cameras that have a Viewfinder and a Dial Mode are the ones you should purchase. Search around. You have Sony, Canon, Panasonic, and Nikon Brands, etc, to choose from. I have a Nikon L840 Bridge Camera as a backup to my DSLR. It has no Viewfinder, no Dial Mode, and it shoots JPEG only. A true point and shoot camera. No bells and whistles. I would also recommend you check reviews before buying a camera. Good luck.

To receive useful suggestions, you may want to state which camera features are and are not important to you.

You could be looking at the Sony RX10ii at $900 used at BH
Or Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 new for $800 at BH
Or Panasonic Lumix FZ2500 used at $950 at BH
Or Leica Vlux $900 used at BH.
Or Nikon P900 $500 refurbished at BH
Or even look at Lumix ZS100 which is much more compact than bridge camera but with a good zoom. $800 new at BH

My suggestion would be the panasonic Lumix FZ300. It is very highly rated, has a zoom out to 600 and is weather proofed. Right now they are less then $500 0n Amazon. Check it out. You will not find a better Camera period in this price range rated as high as this one.

I like the Nikon RX100iii that I have. It does most everything the iv and v versions at a much lower cost. It is super small (pocketable), has great IQ for a 1" sensor (killer in low light), and I have shot at least two bridges with it, one being the Brooklyn Bridge.

Adorama is listing it at $750 right now. I got mine cheaper on sale and do not regret it, although I'll be getting another Fuji X100f for street photography, just because it handles so well.

The focal range on the RX1000iii is 24-70 equivalent and it is quite serviceable when I cannot carry full frame or a kit. If you have any questions about the IQ of these little gems, look on Flickr and filter for Sony RX100iii and you will see what you get. This is a great camera to have when you can't carry your big iron.

I have a Panasonic FZ1000 with a larger 1" sensor. I have compared the photographs from that camera with that of the Panasonic ZS50 which I also have. The FZ1000, with the larger sensor, produces photographs that are far better, and I suppose that would be true of any camera with a 1/2" sensor. If the $800 is too much, you might take a look at the FZ80, an excellent camera, but with a 1/2" sensor for about $400. Read reviews first, trying Camera Labs and Photography Blog.

For a bridge camera I have the Sony HX 400. 1200mm zoom Zeiss lens, about $600. No post processing done.
