FIRST: the subscription price for Lightroom and PhotoShop:
I have PhotoShop 5.5 installation disks somewhere if anybody wants to purchase them , Point? . If you were to buy Lightroom & Photoshop as in my humble opinion, you really need both. Anyways, take the stand alone purchase price for these two titles and it would be about $800, $10 a month = 80 months of the current title, except at the end of 80 month's you have an outdated application dinosaur, that has been eclipsed by several releases of improvements and additions, each with a price tag lets say $150 each time, so really at the end of 80 months you'd have payed over $1G if you wanted to stay current.

With the subscription, you have the up to date-latest-greatest version at the end of those 80 months- not some dinosaur that you throw away- like my now worthless Photoshop 5.5 disks that were top of the line latest greatest when I purchased them.

In a nutshell- the subscription is a fantastic deal for anybody with common sense.

SECOND- RE the Phone APP:

- the iPhone feature is not directed to any of us at UglyHEdgehog, well not 99% anyways. It is directed at the 1.8 billion iphones alone, with 1.6 billion droids ( Some figures i easily found +/-) each one with a pretty darn good camera and getting way better (iPhoneX) out there... CURRENTLY in use without a decent editing app .

So tell me which of you would ignore any percentage of that many potential customers- ( 1% of 3 billion= 30,000,000 customers) sorry folks- its a no brainer- good for them!

You don't need both there are other alternatives I do love light room and at $142 for first version and $72 for upgrade its been a great option. Sadly the new terms do not suit, the classic version is quite good with filtering of local adjustments to a tonal or color range. The ability to dial back a local adjustment is good too. It's a shame to not be able to take advantage but then it does force an upgrade to el capitan. If it had been standalone adobe would have my money already.

As it is i may stick with what i have and invest in on1 2018. If on1 was to provide an upgrade price from a lightroom license they would be getting a lot more users. I'm on the mailing list so may get a good offer when it is released.

I will use it to edit cell phone photos and that's about it. You can use it with your cell phone to take the pictures too. I think that's kind of neat.

Lots of replies about “the PHONE APP” but LR CC is also targeted for tablets, like the iPad and it’s copiers, and the Surface.

And something else to consider. My young (3, 5) grandkids are so proficient on the phone it blows me away. These kids when they are a bit older will do a better and faster job on the phone than I can on the computer.

Adobe is a creative company, they have to be a forward thinking company, and they are looking to the future, as they should be. But they are not leaving their “older” customers behind either. Kudos to them for that. But we, er I mean the “older” customers, will need to accept some changes, over time, because change is the life blood of the creative business.

Moving the creative needle forward does involve taking some risks and going into uncomfortable areas. I applaud them for doing that.

I do expect the direction to evolve as they learn more. They do listen to customers and improve on what they hear. Candidly, they customers with the most votes are the large creative companies (think movie theaters, game companies, ad agencies; not me).
