I minute or two before your link to Tim Grey's video I started a topic with the "official" press release.

If I understand what I've read correctly, they are essentially doing away with Lightroom Classic (i.e., purchased software) and no more updates will be made. For those of you who do not want to use CC, are you looking into alternatives to Lightroom? If so, what are they?

from adobe
"Lightroom 6 is the last standalone version of Lightroom that can be
purchased outside of a Creative Cloud membership. There will not be a
Lightroom 7 perpetual offering. Lightroom 6 will remain for sale for
an undetermined amount of time, but will no longer be updated with
camera support or bug fixes after the end of 2017. Lightroom 6.13 with
support for the Nikon D850 will be released on October 26, 2017."

Got that right! I moved from Aperture to Lightroom as it seemed like the best choice for me at the time. And while I am very happy with Lightroom, this just bites.

This is pretty exciting. All software vendors who want to move forward have to let go of legacy code. I don't love paying a monthly toll to use them, but if I look at my year over year costs, it is about the same. With every tool I've owned, major upgrades had a cost. Adobe just amortizes it as a monthly fee.

What I understand is Lightroom Classic will remain as part of the creative cloud with the organization and catalog. The CC version is aimed to remove the need for tagging and organizing (Adobe has been doing this with their stock for a while and they leverage their AI to guess tags).

Both are installing on my computer right now... so I'll know more later when I get a chance to play with them.

My daughter recently loaded Lightroom into my newly acquired iPhone 7; the icon is there, but I haven't done anything with it,
Pardon my ignorance, but that mean I am now able to edit the Photos on the phone?

Seems what they are saying with the new lightroom cc , hopefully not just putting animal ears and noses on people like many mobile phone apps...
