Also, one can request holding the package for collection, but we have a few UPS depots within 5 or 10 miles, so it's not too much of a hardship. I'm personally pretty happy with UPS.
I often redirect delivery to the UPS depot. Check http://www.ups.com for details.

Hi everyone,
I am expecting a delivery from UPS today for a Canon eos 77D from Adorama. The cost was $799.00 and upon reviewing the tracking information it doesn’t mention a signature being required. It seems to me that any item with that dollar amount would require a signature upon delivery. Is it me, or does that seem odd? Luckily I am in a position that I can watch out for the delivery today, but if I wasn’t, I would really be concerned. Has anyone else had this experience?

Check the delivery date and you if you have received enough packages should be able to approximate the delivery time. In my area it is always, at least almost always after 5 p.m.

That is kind of normal, I had once a package coming (worth $3000) and one UPS driver being lazy, not wanting to drive all the way out to my house (24 mi.), just dropped off the package in front of a bar, where, he know, I use to go quite a bit. That really ticked me off, anybody could have just picked it up and drove off. Luckily a friend came by the package, recognized my name and took the package inside. I later complained to UPS about it (they just laughed)!

As someone who receives Wine Club shipments from California Vintners all the time, the Delivery Service used in not usually one of the main line carriers. The delivery is usually made by a private courier that is supposed to know how to handle wine. I've spent countless time on the phone with a dispatch center arranging to have the driver turn around and deliver.

I'd call the winery if I were you.

Enjoy the wine. What did you get?

We do a lot of business with J Winery. Will have to give them a call and see if they suffered any damage.

Most shippers have to request signatures. The drivers have to get them. My experience with UPS (St. Louis area) is they never stick around long enough to get the signature. Never ring or knock. And most of the time will deliver the packages to the apartment mgrs. office rather than drive to the apartment around the corner.

FedEx on the other hand will stick around for signatures. Will knock on doors. And deliver to the apartment. I was told by a FedEx driver if you require insurance above the standard rate for shipping, that is what triggers the signature.

We so rarely get anything DHL I cannot comment on them.

in business, most packages get signed for as a bulk signature. Driver will load the cart or wagon or what ever they use and someone at the front desk will sign for the whole thing one time. This has caused me so many headaches. Residential would be shipper preference.

I bought a D810 from Adorama, and the delivery info said "signature required." Next thing I knew the package was sitting on my front porch, in plain view of the street, and nobody ever rang the bell or knocked. Go figure . . .

Better retailers will have a check box in their checkout system that allows you to choose Signature Required on Delivery if you want it. I just received a bed from Casper... The UPS guy wanted my signature, just like I requested.

Other retailers will automatically request a signature for items over a threshold (such as $500).

The ones I hate are the ones who don't ask or don't do it at all...

Once you have a tracking number, You can talk to UPS or FedEx and ask for them to require a signature or redirect the package. If you sign up with a free account on either of those sites, you can go online and make the request. The account also gives you additional notice capability ( email, text message and in some cases phone calls). Easy to sign up and no cost to you at all.

Woman across the street calls me to let me know. If I am not there she picks it up for me.

'We' do the same for her.

Simple fix available onto neighborhood where folks look out for each other.

I have noticed it seems random. I did notice that B&H shipments over some value (perhaps $100) do require a signature. FedEx sometimes does and it doesn't appear to be consistent. UPS rarely needs a signature anymore, but they used to (on their electronic pad and asked my name if the signature was illegiblebut haven't lately. We live in a small town in a rural area, maybe that makes a difference.

I have had the same issue with the USPS however there is a note on the door to set all deliveries inside the door so when I am having something expensive delivered I have it delivered to my work place. Next morning its sitting at my work station.

I just received the new 18-400mm Tamron lens from Adorama yesterday. It was on my porch when I got home- no signature required.

I prefer USPS. Always in box or kept at PO with notice to pick up, that day or next morning. I live about 30 miles from the Austin, Tx. UPS center; but can't get a phone number to find out if my package is there before driving that far. Even corporate tells me they con't have their phone number; everything done by e-mail. So, just found out that a local mail shop in a much closer location will accept your package from UPS and call you when it has arrived for only a dollar. All I need to do is give the UPS the shipping address of the store. Found this out last month when I ordered a new camera and lens and had a heck of a time getting my package. Delivery person left a note on my door saying he left it next door; he didn't. Later said it needed a signature but he forgot to remove the notice about leaving it next door. Took 3 extra days to catch up to me package. Anyway, long story short, you might check with a store that receives UPS packages; to me, safer from theft, and I would rather drive to store to pick up package when it arrives instead of a day, or 2, or 3, later. IMO
