To setup a delivery to be signed for the shipper must specify "signature (or adult signature) required" when entering the shipping info into the computer that sets up the daily manifest
for UPS or FedEx. . Insurance can also be added for amounts over $100. What the big stores do is possibly stated in their terms of purchase. I suppose you could ask for signature required and additional insurance when you place tge order

Fedex always asks me if there is anything of value over 100.00 USD or if I want additional insurance, always decline it since there normal coverage will cover whatever I am shipping.

Hi everyone,
I am expecting a delivery from UPS today for a Canon eos 77D from Adorama. The cost was $799.00 and upon reviewing the tracking information it doesn’t mention a signature being required. It seems to me that any item with that dollar amount would require a signature upon delivery. Is it me, or does that seem odd? Luckily I am in a position that I can watch out for the delivery today, but if I wasn’t, I would really be concerned. Has anyone else had this experience?

I long ago signed up with UPS for their tracking service, "My UPS". It narrows the window for delivery and lets you know where the package is along the way. Sometimes the package requires a signature and sometimes not, but having an idea of when things will arrive is helpful. Also, my UPS guys generally ring the door bell.

Now that I am retired it's not as big a deal as in the past. I'm usually home or can be at home when expecting a delivery. When I was working I had high value items delivered to my work place or to where my wife work's.

She retires on 31 Dec and we'll both be poor enough to not order high dollar stuff for a while.

This is the reason I pay for a post office's mail box. Item is keep inside the post office until I pick it up. Yes, post office's box cost money, but if anything happen to the item it USPS's problem, not my.

All is cheerful news just in time for seasonal drivers and D850 deliveries.

As someone who receives Wine Club shipments from California Vintners all the time, the Delivery Service used in not usually one of the main line carriers. The delivery is usually made by a private courier that is supposed to know how to handle wine. I've spent countless time on the phone with a dispatch center arranging to have the driver turn around and deliver.

I'd call the winery if I were you.

Enjoy the wine. What did you get?

UPS has a setup where you can automatically get a text message when something is delivered. Often that's how I find out it's here, even when I'm home... I'm not sure about FedEx though...

I have found that if you request for a signature they will require for all deliveries, but if you have not request that it will be left at door. My medicine sent UPS always require signature. Hope this helps

Unless you instruct the shipping party to pay for "signature required", UPS will treat your shipment the same way it treats a shipment with a $1 value. I learned that a few years ago when Adorama sent me a $3,200 camera body and UPS left it on my doorstep in plane view from the street where it stayed until I got home that evening.

The UPS drivers are under extreme pressure to deliver their quota of packages every hour. The only way to be sure that this will not happen is to both insure your shipment and pay extra for signature required. Even that is no protection from "UPS driver momentum." A few months ago I had a $6,000 radio shipped to me from back east. Although I paid for insurance and signature, at 2:00 p.m. the UPS driver rang my doorbell and ran. By the time I got to the door, he was driving away with my shipment. After several calls to UPS and talking to manager after manager, I finally got them to agree to make a "special delivery" to my house that evening. The process was delayed because they had to wait for the driver to return to their central facility twenty miles away at the end of his shift before they could have another driver deliver my shipment. I got my package around 9:30 that evening. I don't know if FedEx is any better. I am going to try DHL the next time and see how they do.

I'm expecting a delivery of 1000 rounds of 10mm ammo Thursday to be delivered by UPS. Cost is $446.00. I have no idea what time of day it will be delivered. I going out with friends for dinner so I may not be here when it arrives. I have had them stuff it into my big mail box on a major road so they could avoid the drive up my long driveway. It's not marked as ammunition. It seems to me that more care should be given as to how something that dangerous should handled. Sometimes they drop it off near my front door. I'm not required to sign for it.
I'm expecting a delivery of 1000 rounds of 10mm am... (show quote)

ammo is marked with an "ORN-D SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION" on the package so it is identifiable

In 2013 I had NPS send me a 600mmF:4 VR lens and a D4. They did not inform me of the shipping when where or why.
Imagine my surprise when arriving home from Magie Marsh at around 7pm and finding the BIG box on the porch stoop with $16,500 inside. No signature no nothing.

Don't blame UPS, it is the sender who decides if a signature is required. There is a checkbox for that on the form that they fill out. No check, no signature.

If it makes you feel better, I often find my deliveries in the back of the neighbors pickup truck.
