I had a Sigma 150-500 that I felt was not real sharp. After checking the reviews on both Tamron and Sigma 150-600 I decided to stick with the Sigma 150-600 Sport.
I have been very happy with it. The sharpness is greatly improved over the 150-500. If the extra money and weight are not an issue I would recommend it.

Thank you for the advice.

I had a Sigma 150-500 that I used on a D7000 and also on a D750 and I was never satisfied with the sharpness of the sigma lens, I sold it and bought the tamron 150-600 G2 and the difference was like day and night, the tamron lens was noticeable sharper.

Hi all:

Seeking some advice as to which make/version of this lens would be the best fit for D7100?

Regards to all.

Since you haven't mentioned price, the Tamron G2 or the Sigma Sport are both the best of the bunch, and pretty much equivalent in image quality. The Tamron is 4.4 lbs adn $1300, the Sigma is 6.3 lbs and $1800. Can't go wrong with either.

These reviews sum things up nicely

I agree after testing G2, Sigma C, and older version Tamron on my own D750 body. Bought the G2 and so far am very pleased. See earlier post on this thread where I handheld a shot of my dog. Download and click image to zoom in to see sharpness.

Tamron G2 shots. None PP straight JPG. I do have RAW copies and will play with them when I get time.

Precisely correct.
...and the differences are not very big...most people will be hard pressed to see a difference so $ can play a part here. The G2, sigma S and C are all really close (at some ranges the C beats the S ...just not at 600mm where 80% of all your shots will be taken).
...no bad decision here....

More G2 shots from today while fishing in Sarasota. D750 Nikon, Tamron 150-600 G2 1/500 f/6.3 ISO200 Handheld. Missed the focus on the eye by a bit. JPG no PP. Was close to minimum focus and should have reduced focus points but was shooting full auto for a quick grab while fishing. He wanted to steal my shrimp I was using for bait. Had a couple of egrets too.

having he makers come up with the lens we always wanted is nice. I happen to have a 70-200mm lens and 2x tc that on a aps-c sensor will match those photos.
