That will depend entirely on shutter speed, ability to hold steady and how wide and angle he will be shooting.
I have shot with a 5s and except at night, I've never had it on a tripod!

All true statements.
I think you can still get minor camera vibration from mirror slap, slight movement from depressing the shutter button etc.
I have seen effects of camera shake at high shutter speed too bit likely more related to superzooms.

Other than mirror slap (lock up or liveview will fix)...you can eliminate the rest with having the heartbeat and breathing rate of a sniper. :-)

I think you will increase your chances of getting a pixel peepers delight using a tripod but not to say its not possible to get great results with good technique as you noted

I will defer to your experience with the actual camera as I have not shot with it.

Crazy, I think everything you say is true, and the more one does to mitigate ANY problems, it can only help.
I just feel there is a real paranoia with those that have never used one. They hear 50mp and visions of the tail waging the dog just automatically pop up.
They do have special mirror mechanisms in them.
I've been using one for two years now, I shoot everything from sports to portraits with it, all hand held. Every now and then there might be a blur shot, maybe it's the mirror, or maybe just a bad movement from being on my knees at a weird angle to get lower! Who knows. But blown shots a far and few between. No less often than my other camera!!!
The 5s is an amazing camera. It produces amazing detail and has an amazing focus system. The only draw back is it shoots slow and has a very shallow buffer. I've never even used mine for landscape yet. Can't wait. I'm gonna do a ton of night shooting in SF on Friday.
The only people that worry about low light and ISO are those that have never used one. Anyone that owns one is a believer!!!
Crazy, thanks for the input, all valuable information that needs to be considered by a buyer.

all of your feedback has been positive. i read Ken Rockwell review and he says it is the greatest camera on the market. Once I receive it I will give it a great workout. I will shoot with a tripod and handheld. really looking forward to the coming week.

I agree this. Most negative comments are sour grapes from when this came out and blew away the D810. Prior to that more MPs were great and no issue. The D850 is now touted for action with fewer MPs but close enough where all the panic attacks on the 5DS should apply equally to it. But dead silence about that.
Enjoy your camera play with it with no fear and learn first hand what it can do.

By trip to Yosemite was cancelled due to the fires in our area. So i sold the body. Really couldn't see any great improvement over my Mark 3
