I have the 5DS and also the 5D3 and 5DIV. Recently I used 5DS for a large fashion detail shoot the I thought the 5DIV would be perfect for, but after the client compared test shots with the 5DIV & 5DIII they chose the 5DS. The extreme detail that the 5DS captures in the studio is amazing. I shot most with canon 24-70mm L/2.8 II and 50mm f/1.4 art lens. Using 3 Einstein studio flash with modifiers.

The extreme detail is great for long landscape photography and here I am using canon 100-400mm new version sometimes sometimes with the canon 1.4 extender - just amazing!

You will love the camera!

Do you have a good tripod? To get the most out of that sensor, having a tripod on a 2sec timer shot in liveview will ensure maximum pixel peeping joy !
...and it you want to blow up the image to wall size too :-)

I am jealous...I would love to try one of these bodies with the above setup and a 5 stop bracketed exposure at sunset in Yosemitie.
Bucket list.

What's a tripod? Only kidding. I have heard that this body almost demands the use of a tripod. I have about 5 of them. I will be taking my Vanguard and a solid Manfrotto ball head and a cabal release. Will post some images next week.

My main camera is a canon 5d3 and was thinking about upgrading to a mark 4. Found a deal on ebay for a 5ds for $2000. Since 90% of my work is landscapes and people I believe this will be a better body for me. I understand that it is not the best camera for low light and the highest iso is about 6400. I have never needed to go above this number so it is no big deal.
I will be leaving on Sat and heading for Yosemite for Road Scholer trip. This should be a great lens for all of the fall colors.
believe it or not I'm really excited.

A minor point, but if you're going on a "Road Scholer" trip, why not spell it right: "Rhodes scholar"?

road scholar is a tour group aimed at older folks. Rhodes scholar is a group aimed at smarter folks. I full into the first group.

Congratulations, it is the highest resolution FF camera available and should produce incredible photos for you.
Enjoy it.

You will love the detail that 51 MP can generate. You will also find out that 24 MP is adequate for a lot of what you shoot to print 16x20 enlargements but I prefer to downsample than wish I had the 51MP and my camera can only do 24 MP. Set your jpegs to Medium because those will be about 12 MB with 51 MP RAW files and large being about 19-20MB which eats up a lot of hard drive space. I happen to have the 5DS-R and regret that it was not in existence in June 2011 when I went to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.

That will depend entirely on shutter speed, ability to hold steady and how wide and angle he will be shooting.
I have shot with a 5s and except at night, I've never had it on a tripod!

at my age a tripod is good to have even at 1/500.

My favorite park is Yosemite. I bought a 5DSR after my last trip there, but before my trip to Peru. Now I have large iconic pictures for the wall. Enjoy. (I gave my 5D3 to my daughter).
