I've heard that Nikon is going to put a call/text feature in their next upgrade to the D850. The model nomenclature is still under consideration. Though rumor has it the camera will be branded D850cp.

I love it! I had a good long laugh!

The specs of the Iphone X are not at all impressive in regards to the camera. But they seem to provide some apps that will make some things easier to do for some users. The camera companies are not going to do anything because of this Iphone. They will just focus on their business as usual.

What I would like to see is a camera with a built in phone, not the other way around. Samsung tried it with the K zoom model, but it was not highly rated. Perhaps Canikon, Sony, or Olympus might come up with something in the future

I am forced to use my DH film Canon EOS 620; I can't buy a new camera. The cost to develop is cheaper than any money that I could save up for a digital mirrorless camera. Maybe the digital mirrorless cameras will come down in price after Christmas so that is my goal to buy one then. With the Apple iPhone X as competition, I don't know what the camera companies are going to do. From what I've read, the Apple iPhone X is going to be spectacular. I'll decide after Christmas.

Come out of the darkness in the woods to see the light of day, friend. Search and research is what I suggest, if you truly want to learn, then get a good look at the product. If you've eyes, then you'll see. iPhone competition, seriously? LOL

Though rumor has it the camera will be branded D850cp. The earpiece and microphone are going to be incorporated into the bottom plate of the camera. Not convenient if the camera is on a tripod, so there are trade offs. The touch sensitive screen on the back will be used for the texting function. Along with the database of stored photos used for Program mode photos, there will be an extensive vocabulary and intelligent design that will guess the words you want to use in sentences. There is also a phonebook in which to store friend's numbers, addresses, etc.

Nikon developers admit this is going to be a bit of challenge. However, they think this should put Nikon ahead of many cell phones for photography use.

I recommend everyone look out. The iPhone X is going to beat all the cameras and camera companies in technology, weight, size, and excellence. I want it just for the camera, but I will wait until January. Besides, I'm having fun with the Canon EOS 620 now, and I don't have the $999 for the iPhone X right now.

If you think the iPhone X is going to beat all cameras then save up your money and buy it. As for camera manufacturers they wouldn't care because people who do buy cameras don't think the iPhone X has a good camera although it has a lot of features actually not wanted for those who bought real cameras.

Have you looked at USED camera's at KEH (about $350 for 24mp USED mirrorless)
Ebay?
or even your local SAVER'S thrift store?
People are dumping older working camera's at Savers'.
I just picked up a WORKING Canon 300D with 15-50mm kit lens with NO wear, and the charger AND a SLIK (tm) tripod at Saver's
for a grand total of thirty five dollars and change.

You might consider obtaining a USED but newer digital camera from online site KEH.
Picking up the appropriate adapter on Ebay ($19-$35) and KEEPING your film lenses with the NEWER camera body.

You are NOT being very Yankee-famous frugal.

If the big camera companies are smart. They would try to steal some of their creative crew away.

Does that mean I need to dump him for an MD? I can't. We've been thru too much together. I wouldn't lose him for anything in the world.

Now my woman, we've been through a lot together too, but I would dump her in a heartbeat....., she did, after all, let my dinner get cold once in 1999!!!!

If you can capture something like this with an iPhone anything, then yes. But in reality, no.

Good job, just the same! We need more top-notch reporting like this. Have you heard anything worth reporting about the 7DIII, rumored to be coming out next year? I was hoping to be able to Skype with it.

iphones are very capable of capturing beautiful images created by the Photographer, how is that not a real camera? Are you feeling a little intimidated by the images from these "real" camera phones?

Actually, like most people said it's the photographer, and I must admit there are many great images from the phone but it takes a lot of skill and a lot of luck to get them. They are for the pro not rank amateur like me. For rank amateur like me I can only handle a DSLR. The pros, the photojournalists, use the phone to take pictures for their newspaper. Yeah I know. It's not a camera that I can really use.
Like a lot of people said, the iphone is too much camera for me. Give me the simple DSLR.

I don't think it's a matter of intimidation!
As the old saying goes, give the ten best photographers in the world a Kodak Instamatic, and they will return with the ten best fotos ever taken with an Instamatic.
You could say the same thing about an iPhone, but I don't think ANY of them would be ready to trade their regular kits in for iPhones, eventhough the probably all, already own one!!!

Has ANYONE noticed... these are not phones anymore; these are personal devices with communication and organizational features built in; a phone just being one of the communication devices as well as the camera being another device.

I've noticed. Smart phones are computers that happen to have a phone app on them. I use a lot of apps more than I use the phone app.
