I'm thinking of buying a refurbished Nikon D800 or D810. There's a $200 price difference between the two on Adorama. Can anyone tell me in a nutshell what I'm gettting (or missing) for the $200?

The lack of the optical low-pass filter / anti-aliasing filter and Expeed 4 pushed me to go with the D810. I'm trying to not sell the 810 and go for the D850 when it comes out. The Expeed 5 and autofocus processor that's in the 850 are quite attractive to me particularly after using them in the D500 for wildlife and sports.

I looked at the link and it was more than helpful. I think I've definitely decided on spending the extra two yards. Thank you.

Just a thought and I'm sure you'll get more responses. Good luck!

Does anybody know if Abe's of Maine is reputable? They advertise a brand new D810 for $2070.

The D810 is supposed to be greatly improved over the D800 and it's made in Thailand instead of Japan.

If you find prices lower than advertised by Adorama, B&H or Cameta, be careful for many reasons. Use the search function on this site for numerous reason. I personally stay with one of the above mentioned and enjoy their customer service and return policies.

I have been trying to contact Abes for 4 days to find out if the 810 is foreign made or not. I have tried 3 different ways (2by telephone and 1 by info@). I have had connections made to the info department and they hang up, refuse to answer and once I got an actual voice who told me to hold on. The price suggests it is not American made.

Nikon does NOT make anything in America!

You kind of lost me with that query. Nikon is not an American company and most places probably will not be able to verify where your possible purchase comes from. The important issue for many is that they are distributed by Nikon USA and not a so called Grey Market import that may not be able to be serviced/repaired in the US.

Again, stay with the three I mentioned above or some other reputable ones recommended by folks on this site.

I don't think any Nikon cameras or lenses are American made. I think Nikons are made in Japan and more recently Thailand.

You may wish to use the SEARCH function at the top of the page. I just grabbed this thread for your inspection:
