A great example of "watch that background"!

Funny how things work. On our refrigerator door is a pic of three grandkids in the front yard. One of them looks like he has a tree limb sticking in his ear. I haven't pointed it out to daughter (who took the pic) or wife (who loves it). Often the best thing to say is nothing.

To answer one question, no I don't think it was done on purpose. The timing / position would have to have been so split second to accomplish this without posing everyone, that it would practically impossible to plan and execute this on the fly.

Funny photo just the same.

Not so at all. A shot that is easy to get, especially if planned. But most shots like that are discovered when viewing the photos. One of the funniest shots I got was a pitch that actually went behind the batter and slightly nicked him. I did not notice it until later when I was skimming through the view finder in the later innings in the dug out and showing them to a couple of the players. Suddenly, one of them started laughing, as the ball was perfectly placed and the batter was in the perfect position to make it look liked he pooped out the ball. It was the hit of the night! And yes, the pun was deliberate, the photo just happened.

But kidding aside, I have stopped a bounced basketball solid on the rim as to make it look like it was balanced there and stopped the ball (in a slightly blurred action shot) on a bat in a high school baseball game. The hit ended up being a home run over right center. The bat (metal) was bent like a bow upon impact. It can be done with good timing and practice.

I enjoyed the shot too, and am surprised on a photo blog how many didn't catch on, especially when you stated watch the background! Good lesson in observing your composition, and thinking about the makeup of the picture, as the photographer holding the camera or a photographer looking at the picture!

You've heard the expression, "Keep your eye on the ball." How about, "Keep your eye on the bat"?

Thanks for posting this, so funny and saw it right away. Perfect shot to explain why we need to look at the background. I appreciated your sense of humor, must be like mine.

Thank God someone else found it to be funny. I was beginning to think something was seriously wrong with me.
I suppose I could have just posted in "general chit chat" and titled it funny photo, but then admin. would probably move it.
Glad this one gave you a laugh.

Thank you for responding and especially for "getting it". My purpose in posting it was to get a laugh, which didn't seem to work.
My "do you suppose it was on purpose" question was more or less hypothetical. Glad you enjoyed the shot.

The funniest part of it was it was a Yawnkee who did it. May explain why their front row fan base has an average of four teeth. LOL

Hmmmm? If I went to ball games I would have to check that out.
Of course some picky people might get offended.

It's not hard to offend a Yawnkee fan.
