Did you say you connected the camera to your pc via usb slot - and you still could not d/l to the pc? If that doesn't work, you likely have a pc issue. Try all these approaches on a friend' pc and see what happens.

Yes. If the software didn't load -properly would that prevent the download?
No no. Not unless you tell the computer to reformat the card which should not be done anyway. When you have finally found a way to transfer those pictures from the camera ( card) and are sure they are safely stored then the best advice is to reformat in the camera. Good luck. I'm sure there must be a way to solve your problem. Frustrating.

I was reading issues with photos and winodws 10 has a lot of problems. I have windows 10 and never had the problem before.
I did some Google search. Apparently Windows10 has been a problem with downloading photos. So I'll have to try the solution.
Spring for a Mac something or other and you'll find all this stuff works much better. Oh, and if your camera isn't a Canon, double trouble!😎😎😎

I'm not too much of a computer wiz, so I'm not sure what you mean by UI. It could be a file format not sure. I've never had this problem before In fact they have download really well. My frustration level is leading me to a glass of wine.
There might be some utility on your computer that has taken control when it sees an SD card with photos when a connection is made. If you plug your camera into a USB port with the appropriate cable, you should be able to see the SD card as a connected HD. The suggestion of a new card reader is a great place to start.
But first, try this: insert the SD card and open File Explorer/This PC or My Computer. Your card should be listed as a USB type drive. Right click on the icon and choose Open With and select File Explorer.
Well I just got back from my Alaska trip and I'm panicking. I'm trying to download my photos from the memory card to my pc. I keep getting error message "no photos found". When I put the card in the camera the pictures show up. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
Plug your camera directly to your PC. You know the camera can see the files, use it to download them.
I would just open them copy an paste them where needed. Then let camera reformat card for you. When you get a new card let camera format it.
Ya, sorta, see in the file ... either by link to camera.. or in reader [some times a problem with mine.. why?] use control A to select all control C to copy and control V to paste in a file folder you have made on your desk top. At times computers get finicky recognizing "just plugged in" USB items.
Cheat.... try it on "someoneelse's" [compound word, like the Germans do!] computer.... It is a common problem... also try rebooting with the card in the reader. The computer will see it and call it USB storage. [hopefully]
