This camera is indeed hard to ignore. I'm not ready to upgrade at the moment, but when I am ready, I don't know what I'll do. A99ii or a9? With either, I will no longer need two bodies as I currently have, one for action & one for landscapes/astro. I currently have all a-mount glass which I adapt to my a7R, so for that I'm leaning toward the a99ii. Well, and it is $1300 cheaper. But the low-light capabilities and more of the a9 would be nice at tines. Decisions, decisions...

DG, I am actively in the process of replacing my A99 with the A99II.

Though it has been justifiably overshadowed by the A9, it is STILL one of THE most capable and POWERFUL cameras available today.

Yes; I LOVE the fact that it is a sports shooter that doubles as a portrait and landscape camera with resolution second only to the 5DSR. AND that it produces some of the BEST image quality of all Full Frame cameras. I honestly think that if Sony pushed it like it has the A9, that more people would know what a MONSTER of a camera it is.

MY choice for next camera is leaning A99II... but I am SORELY tempted into taking a LOOOOOOOONG hard look at the A9.

BTW, people trying to stop A9 sales have pointed to so-called "banding problems" under certain lighting conditions. Well, recent tests by DPREVIEW, not known for being Sony friendly, put this issue to rest:

This should solve that issue quite nicely.

DG, I have HUGE hands, and that's the main reason why I got rid of MY A7RII; it was just too small in my mitts.

Yes; the A9 can shoot up to 15 fps with the right combination of adapter and non native lens, but 10 fps is typical for the longer Canon primes with metabones III and IV adapters. Performance is better with Metabones V and Sigma MC 11 adapters.

Focus peaking, excellent 4K, the best AF in the business, eye AF, Face detection AF, a deeeeeeep buffer, fantastic low light and dynamic range performance, and a great price will get people with existing Canon and Nikon glass to buy it and eventually invest in E mount lenses to utilize the full potential of this beast of a camera.

Small size or not, because of the A9, I'm STRONGLY tempted to jump BACK into the E mount ranks, buy the VG, and just roll the dice.

The small size may be related to Asian markets, people there generally are smaller and have smaller hands than us originating from Europe and Africa. As the Asians outnumber us many times and are from growing economies with lot of young and technologically thinking buyers I think it is understandable that Sony is making their cameras to fit their hands. Also they have much less of a tradition of buying bulky dslr cameras or cameras at all for that matter. We just have to accept that as a minority market we have to use what the Asians want.

Boy, that's the truth! I couldn't believe what I was reading in DPReview's trashing of Sony's a99ii focus system, calling it flawed while the same issues were a minor annoyance in a review of a competitive camera (I don't recall the other camera). I think DPReview's problem lies with using different testers who have their own favorites & biases, then lack of proper editing supervision for consistency and objectivity.

Interesting about the LEDs causing the banding, Cholly - thanks fur sharing that. This is just another example of a Sony detractor rushing to print something negative about a remarkable camera regardless of the truth.

Yep. You are on to something here.

Throw in the fact that a LOT of Asians are into iconic designs like the original Japanese SLR's of the 50's and 60's and anything with a retro design... and the combination of these factors go a LONG way towards explaining why Sony designed FE cameras the way they did.

^^^DG, these too, is a GREAT points!!

I've read pro-Nikon reviewers DESTROY Canon products, and pro-Canon reviewers TRASH Nikon products. I've also read articles from both that weren't quite as "friendly" to Olympus, Pentax, or Sony cameras. 'Course they don't seem to have that problem with Leica or Panasonic.

BTW, fro-knows has been anti-Sony from the beginning. His first video with the A9 showed EXACTLY how biased he is and it should come as NO surprise that it sure does SEEM that he DELIBERATELY tried as hard as he could to make the camera "fail". That is, if you can call 2% of the shots under extremely RARE lighting conditions a failure.

As pointed out by another photographer... "who shoots Soccer at 1/4000 of a second?!?!"

It should not have the banding....period. Not at high ISO, not at any shutter speed, should NOT be there. Keep looking for excuses for it and keep looking dumber with each post. How many professional soccer events have you shot?r You can barely take a sanpshot of a standing still building. Or am I wrong? Lets see your work. Lets see your knowledge put into actual images. Prove you are not a mediocre, crap talker, fanboy.

What an ignorant ass. You didn't bother to read the article, obviously. The a9 does NOT have a banding issue, as the article explains.

Fanboy? Or is the truth that you are a jealous Sony hater? That's it, we got you figured out. Just switch over to Sony and you can enjoy all the same benefits we enjoy!

Pentax users feel that DP Review is essentially hostile to Pentax.

DG, please don't engage immature, ignorant, anti-social TROLLS.

They are attention whores with serious personality disorders, and well beneath your dignity level.

Don't lower yourself to their gutter by engaging in their game. The best thing to do is just ignore them like you would a child throwing a temper tantrum.

That way they will continue to act out and make themselves look worse and worse with each post.

I read the first review of the K-1... a revolutionary camera in MANY respects... and I got that feeling too.

It would appear that some of us agree on one point, if it may be one point alone. The nature of immature, ignorant, anti-social trolls. Those that can only extol the virtues of a single brand, find it necessary to denigrate other brands, and cannot take any level of criticism without vilifying it.

I feel that Cholly has self identified here as an attention whore with serious personality disorders, and well beneath our dignity level. Perhaps he is a wanna be politician.

Once again, the Sony A9 is a fine camera, but not for everybody, and it does not need this kind of over-hyped promotion. It can stand on its own feet without a Trolly or a Shilly.

Perhaps Cholly would be better attuned to posting tweets in the early hours of the morning.

Offer still open. Anyone of you show me better images than the ones I have with my primitive equipment and then I would consider changing. Lets see your work, those precious images where you use to the full potential all the improvements I am missing.

I am not surprised. DPReview articles & reviews are thorough, but it's easy to recognize a strong bias here and there.
