Been with AAA since I learned to drive. My card says a member for 63 years because started as an associate member to my Dad's. I'm 70. Never wait more than 45 min, but So. Cal. may have more tow trucks available than other places. Started with a 1968 Fiat, Ford Pinto, VW Rabbit, Diesel Rabbit, Ford Escort, Mazda 6 and current Chrysler PT Cruiser.

I was a AAA+ member for 20yrs and had an occasion to use them twice in the past few years. Once in downtown Tampa when a radiator hose blew(their vendor took 1.5hrs to respond) and again When I got a blowout on interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando in a storm. AAA said 45 min response. After 1.5 hrs I called again, they said 45 more min. After another hr when the rain stopped I changed the tire myself and quit AAA! Now my insurance covers both my cars for about$25 a year!

Does your insurance company take the call in an emergency and send someone to help or do you have to take care of it and get reimbursed?

We have two 2015 Honda Fits that will be covered for another month. After that, I will have to select a company for a roadside assistance contract. I know from past experience that all the plans use the same local towing companies, so that's not a deciding factor. Any opinions on good or bad plans or options?

AAA for 55 years. Use it for personal and work vehicles.

No, I call them and they send a vendor, but its probably the same ones aaa uses, but my insurance charges much less than aaa. With gps nowadays most dont need all that extra stuff aaa provides, IMHO.

Jerry; check with your car insurance company; you may already have some coverage for them; if not, you should be able to add it very cheaply.

We have 3 vehicles covered on our Auto Insurance. VW Beetle, Kia Sportage and a Ford Class C Motorhome. Total cost for all 3 is $37.00 a year.
Liberty Mutual Insurance. There is a limit to distance of the tow of 50 miles. They also include roadside assistance in this price. We just call an 800 number & they send out what we need. Only had to use it once, but it sure was nice to have available.

The basic provision of auto insurance for towing and labor coverage is that you make the arrangements with any company you can get and the insurance company will reimburse your expense up to the limit you have purchased for either towing or labor performed at the scene of breakdown. Some companies may also include "call us, we'll get somebody for you" but that is specific to a specific company

Have used AAA for over 40 years. Always good service with one exception. They had contracted with some poorly run wrecker service and the response was terrible. Within a short time, these losers were replaced with a more reputable group and service has been superb since. Have also used their travel agency a great deal in the past. Great customer service coupled with best prices available.

I'd imagine the quality of service, response times, etc would vary with whomever is providing the service in your locale.

Right. They make the best choices they can, but local help can change over time.
