At the risk of sounding foolish, I would do a factory reset and make sure there was nothing in memory that is not cleared by a factory reset. I may have missed where you tried that and if so, my apologies.

White balance or program issue.

Probably program issue namely picassa it may not support the d500 as it was canceled. Google photo's it's (free) replacement may work.

Good point. A lot better than that poster who assumed the OP Shot jpg.

Normally, if one shoots raw, one doesn't need to ask about WB issues. And as it turns out it is the program.

I try to watch these issues and hope I don't have them. It's so easy to accidentally change something and not realize it particularly when you're setting up a new camera. BTW, almost done packing for Sunday! We're going nuts like a couple kids!

If indeed the problem emanates from Picassa, one relatively low cost but highly popular alternative to Picassa might be Affinity from Serif. /Ralph

It sounds like your post processing software needs to be updated to properly read the raw files from the D500. I get the same kind of results when I open a raw file from my Canon 5D MK IV in Macphun's Noiseless app.

Picasa is not designed to edit raw files. My four different cameras each display raw slightly different in Picasa, including some with pinkish tint.

Do you edit your raw files with another editor and just use Picasa for download and organizing?

I second this explanation, Google no longer supports Picasa so there are no RAW decoders for files from new cameras. You can use another program to generate a jpeg to view in Picasa. Another solution is to shoot RAW + JPEG (even basic quality) so the camera adds a reference JPEG you can view. When you view the file in camera it automatically generates a JPEG for viewing.

Switch from auto wb to anything else and see what happens.

I just received my D500 today and went out to take some test shots. I downloaded to my computer via Picassa and although the thumbnails in the properties section look perfectly fine colorwise, the larger folder shots all have a strong magenta hue to them. Any suggestions as to what the issue is? I assume it's something simple that is going to make me feel really stupid.

I read a post in the past couple of weeks of a user who kept getting a magenta cast on his D500 raw images. I think the advice fed back to him or her was as above, white balance. I don't have a D500 so I lost interest, but having searched for D500 I can't find the post, nor of course, the resolution. Someone may recall the thread and be able to find it.
